After a brief, but intense courtship and only two dates (2008’s award winning LittleBigPlanet and 2009’s LBP for PSP), Sony and Media Molecule, have said “I do!”
That’s right – Sony Computer Entertainment announced Tuesday that they had purchased the UK-based development studio, fully cementing their partnership ’till death do they part. Dodge the rice-throwing Sackboys and Sackgirls and hit the jump for some choice quotes from the happy couple.

I’ll admit that I don’t know what to make of Heavy Rain; the game looks like it has potential but it’s so high-concept that there’s a lot of room for failure. It’s definitely a game that needs a demo and it looks like SCEA felt the same way as the Heavy Rain demo will be available for download on February 11th via PSN. Players will get to sample two chapters of the game and play as Norman Jayden and Scott Shelby as they search for clues and pursue the Origami Killer.
SCEA also released a new trailer via the PlayStation Blog, which you can find after the jump.

Time to break our your umbrellas, folks. Last week, Sony finally put a date to one of PlayStation 3’s most highly anticipated exclusive titles – Heavy Rain.
The interactive-drama-that-thinks-it’s-a-game from Quantic Dream, the French Developers behind 2005’s Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit, will be riding a storm front into North American homes on February 23rd, 2010. The inclement weather system will then be jumping across the Atlantic to inundate Europe and the UK on February 24th and 26th, respectively.

Remember way back in the good ol’ days of E3 2006 when Gran Turismo 5 was first announced? Of course, that was eons ago and the game still hasn’t seen the light of day. No worries, though. It’s coming out in March! They said so!
Actually, not so much. Yet again, PS3-exclusive Gran Turismo 5 has gotten a bump in release date. According to the official press release (it’s in Japanese, mind you), Sony says, “We’ve decided to postpone it for 3 month(s).”
A Western release was previously planned for Summer 2010, but there’s no word whether or not this delay will affect that decision. Stay tuned to CFD! for updated information on all crazy Google-translated Japanese press releases (and maybe even some GT5).

I think it’s a fairly safe assumption that we’ve all played at least one 2D shooter at some point. I also think we can all agree that over the years there hasn’t been a whole lot of progress with the genre’s mechanics. Don’t get me wrong; there were a handful of games that truly managed to do something new (Ikaruga’s polarity system and Einhander’s emphasis on “weapon flipping” and 2.5D presentation are two good examples), it’s just that those types of games have been few and far between. So what about PixelJunk Shooter? Does it raise the bar and present a new experience? Or is it just another fun, albeit uninspired, blast-fest?
PixelJunk Shooter is a quirky, stylized shooter that plays like a puzzle game with a variety of liquids which will each react differently to one other and are governed by their own rules and physics. Feel free to take a stab at that answer.

I am writing this on a snowy and cold Saturday up here in Ontario, and like most Canadians do on days like this I am fondly thinking back to the brief but glorious summer that has only recently passed. The only problem is that all I can remember from summer is how much it rained. Almost everyday it would rain heavily until the afternoon and then just when you thought the sun was finally going to come out, and you ran to grab the frisbee, another shower would move in and ruin all your fun.
Well that is exactly how you’re going to feel with Sony and Quantic Dreams’ Heavy Rain when the game and the first DLC hit together this February. Only in this case you’ll probably be looking forward to more Heavy Rain; the game that is, not the precipitation.

President Barack Obama announced Monday in a White House press conference a partnership with the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) to inspire children to pursue math and science courses by way of video games.
The program is called STEM, an acronym for science, technology, engineering, and math-focused education, and includes several ESA-sponsored initiatives involving PlayStation 3 systems running LittleBigPlanet in libraries and game design challenges.

Everybody grab your friends! There’s going to be an Ad Hoc party! No, wait; You don’t actually have to go grab your friends, I said “adhocParty“. It’s a new app for your PSP that will allow you to enjoy all your favorite PSP games that only feature Ad Hoc multiplayer modes through your PS3’s internet connection. It’s already been available in Japan for the past year and Sony will be bringing it to the North American PlayStation Store soon… for free!

Finally, Sony mega-franchise Uncharted will be represented on PSP… sort of.
The ESRB has leaked details that Sony will be giving some their beloved franchises a bit of a shake-up by releasing a series of game themed virtual pinball tables for the PSP; which they are calling Pinball Heroes (See, Activision hasn’t copyrighted every possible ‘Hero’ related word combination).
