Nintendo certainly pulled out a few surprises at their press conference (KID ICARUS!) so it remains to be seen if Sony, last of “The Big Three” can top them. Whatcha got up your sleeves, Sony?
We’ll find out at 12pm Pacific/3pm Eastern. As usual, we’ll be starting up the engines on the liveblog about 15 minutes before showtime to give everybody a chance to “find their seats”, as it were. Will we get confirmation of the Team Ico HD collection? PSP 2? You’ll have to join us and find out!
Another Summer is upon us and along with the customary triple shot of shorts, suntan lotion and stifling heat comes yet another alliterative hat-trick in the form of the video game industry’s biggest trade show: the Electronic Entertainment Expo – E3 2010 is here.
And even though CFD! can’t be in Los Angeles this year, we’re going to do our best again to cover things from afar (while silently assembling our master plan to dominate the show floor next year). What does that mean to all of you, our loyal readers? We’re going to run down all of the details just under the jump. See you there.
Indie games have certainly seen a meteoric rise in popularity lately. Granted they were always there, willing to keep us entertained for hours with their genre-busting ideas, generally unique visuals and super affordable prices, but it seems as though they’ve really jumped to the forefront of peoples’ minds during the past couple of years.
The 360 created the Community Games tab (later rebranded as Xbox Live Indie Games) on the Marketplace and PSN has been graced with more than a few games from prominent indie developer thatgamecompany. In keeping with this trend, Sony has decided to bring Eufloria to PSN where it can sit comfortably alongside other indie greats such as Flower and the PixelJunk series.
Okay yes, Sony has added a few notable games to their Greatest Hits line of PSP games. LittleBigPlanet, Gran Turismo, Resistance: Retribution and Secret Agent Clank are all available for the low price of $20. Woo-freaking-hoo. But forget about that. Greatest Hits are out, PSP Favorites are in.
I think it’s safe to say the God of War Collection was a resounding success. Being able to play two great games, in HD, with trophy support on a system that at one time could play said games anyway but can’t anymore was really a no-brainer. Well it looks like Sony might be planning to make a habit out of HD collections, since Kotaku was informed by one of their readers that the company has actually been collecting opinions on the matter in a God of War survey.
This, coupled with the recent rumor involving a kid with horns and some very large stone/grass creatures, means they just may be on to something. I have to say, the concept of finally being able to play some great PS2 games on my PS3 (stupid removal of backwards-compatibility… *grumble*grumble*) in HD and all that is very appealing. I’m not sure if it could get any better than Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, but I’m certainly willing to keep an open mind.
And for once a company making a shameless grab for money ends up benefiting the consumer as well. Yay, Capitalism!
Look alive people, there’s one mother of a flying gunship headed our way! The town’s completely defenseless so it’s up to us to make sure that warship never reaches its destination! I know you’re scared, but we’re the only ones who can do this. We’ll have to board this monstrosity while it’s still in the air, and take it down fast. Don’t worry, the defenses are completely automated so as long as you step lively you won’t end up with a rocket in your keister. Just make sure you take down that gargantuan flying death machine before it gets to town and everything will be fine. What’s that? “How will we destroy it?” Simple! Just grab a hacksaw and start cutting!
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Patchwork Heroes.
A “highly-placed source” has leaked to VG247 that Sony is planning to reveal a for-pay PlayStation Network subscription model at E3 2010.
Though the service’s free subscription won’t be affected, the premium subscribers would get a free PSN game each month with the ability to choose between “two to four” titles. It will reportedly cost £50, or about $70.
The ModNation Racers demo is out, the game is a week away, and then this video hits.
Yes the game is going to be awesome, and yes I’ve played the demo probably more than any other demo ever, but did Sony really need to make me want this game anymore? Apparently so. Seriously with E3 approaching Sony needs to inject Kevin Butler into its press conference.
If you haven’t heard already (who’re you kidding?), LittleBigPlanet 2 has been officially announced by Sony. It’s not like Twitter, rumors, and Game Informer leaks weren’t enough proof, but it’s nice to hear from the big guys themselves.
The essential sequel features are here, such as additional stickers, costumes, items, and levels. The biggest addition, however, is the implementation of “puppet A.I.” characters that can be programmed to perform different actions within the levels. Custom cutscenes and control schemes are among the other new features included in Media Molecule’s next game. +Continue Reading
There’s no doubt about it: Sony’s award-winning God of War series is about as epic as video games get. From the enticing twist on Greek mythology, the famous choir and orchestral lines as you rip your foes to shreds, and that whole over-the-top bloody wreck of an anti-hero, Kratos; everything you’d want in a blockbuster opus is here.
So how’s God of War III stack up against its weighty predecessors? I’ll give you a hint: Kratos’ final entry in the trilogy will kick you in the balls and crank it to 11 (if you’re not down with the former, I’m sorry). Read on for more overused clichés!
Heavy Rain is already considered by many to be one of the most moving video games ever made, but just in case anyone out there isn’t moved by the emotional tale of a father’s search for his kidnapped son, developer Quantic Dream wants to at least make sure that they move while they’re playing it. According to an article published in Chief, a Belgian gaming magazine, (translated from Gamer.nl) Heavy Rain will be receiving support for Sony’s upcoming motion controller, PlayStation Move.
The Midwest snows may have melted away, but the weather forecast in Hades is looking a wee bit chilly today.
That’s right – the long-delayed Crush! Frag! Destroy! podcast is finally about to be recorded! There’s just one problem, though… We need a name!
Yes, we have yet to decide on a proper name for this beast and we’re taking suggestions from you, our (potential) listeners. So drop us a comment below with your suggestions and make them good (FYI: FragCast and CrushCast are both already existing shows elsewhere, plus they’re not terribly creative). Give us your best, your weirdest, your most inventive!

Hit the jump for a quick rundown of what we’re going to be covering on our inaugural broadcast.
After a brief, but intense courtship and only two dates (2008′s award winning LittleBigPlanet and 2009′s LBP for PSP), Sony and Media Molecule, have said “I do!”
That’s right – Sony Computer Entertainment announced Tuesday that they had purchased the UK-based development studio, fully cementing their partnership ’till death do they part. Dodge the rice-throwing Sackboys and Sackgirls and hit the jump for some choice quotes from the happy couple.
I’ll admit that I don’t know what to make of Heavy Rain; the game looks like it has potential but it’s so high-concept that there’s a lot of room for failure. It’s definitely a game that needs a demo and it looks like SCEA felt the same way as the Heavy Rain demo will be available for download on February 11th via PSN. Players will get to sample two chapters of the game and play as Norman Jayden and Scott Shelby as they search for clues and pursue the Origami Killer.
SCEA also released a new trailer via the PlayStation Blog, which you can find after the jump.
Time to break our your umbrellas, folks. Last week, Sony finally put a date to one of PlayStation 3′s most highly anticipated exclusive titles – Heavy Rain.
The interactive-drama-that-thinks-it’s-a-game from Quantic Dream, the French Developers behind 2005′s Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit, will be riding a storm front into North American homes on February 23rd, 2010. The inclement weather system will then be jumping across the Atlantic to inundate Europe and the UK on February 24th and 26th, respectively.
