D3′s Puzzle Quest was addicting as all hell; slapping a lite-RPG skin over Bejeweled had to be a stroke of genius on the level of the first person to mix chocolate and peanut butter or hookers and blow. How do you top a formula that neared perfection on its first try?
You hand it over to Square Enix and PopCap. And have them add a dash of Pokemon to the mix.
Do you like the oddly adorable concept of plants defending your neatly manicured front yard against the menace of the hungry dead? Do you also have a pathological fear of playing games on your computer?
If you answered yes to both of these questions then PopCap Games, forever marching forward in their quest for total platform dominance, has the answer for you.
WorthPlaying spoke to PopCap’s Garth Chouteau at Casual Connect in Seattle, where he confirmed that their smash hit, Plants vs. Zombies, was indeed bound for home consoles on Xbox Live Arcade.
No word was given on release dates, price or other details, but based on the game’s $9.99 pricepoint on Steam, I’d be willing to wager 800 space bucks is a fairly safe assumption.
Is it 2012 already? Because if it’s not time for the Apocalypse just yet then I must still be dreaming.
We already know that Peggle came to World of Warcraft a short while back, following on the heels of the First Horseman, Bejeweled. Now it seems as if having these two addictive time sinks in such close proximity to each other for such a duration has caused them to sin against nature and produce an unholy offspring – Peggle: World of Warcraft Edition.
Sporting ten new levels and ten challenges with such groan inducing names as “Phat Lewtz” and “Pwnyxia”, this hellspawn is available at PopCap’s website…for free.
Some of you may recall that there was a similar free version released on Steam called Peggle Extreme, with Valve-property themed levels like Half-Life and Team Fortress 2. The title screen even sported a headcrabbed Bjorn the Unicorn. I’m going to posit a hypothesis that some as-yet-unknown property of Peggle causes it to assimilate any game it finds itself in close proximity to for an undetermined period of time. Sort of like the Borg, if they were made of candy-coated crack and rainbows.
Did you really need to purchase Peggle for yet another platform?
We know you already have it for PC, Nintendo DS, Xbox Live Arcade and any other platform that PopCap sees fit to release their candy-colored digital crack on, so why would you need it for one more?
Well did I happen to mention that it’s on sale until midnight on June 14th for iPhone and iPod Touch for the low, low price of just $0.99?
Yeah, I’ll just wait here until you guys get back from rushing to the App Store. You can thank me later.
Oh, you’re back already? Yes, you’re welcome. No, I know how much you love Bjorn the unicorn and that insufferably “EXTREME!” 90′s throwback, Jimmy Lightning. Yes, I already said you’re welcome. Go play your damn game already and annoy people on the bus with “Ode To Joy”.
(Editor’s note – Yes, I purchased it too. I’m not made of stone, people. I have my weaknesses as well.)
