Yes, it was patch day for World of Warcraft, which means it’s time for me to climb out of the hole I’ve been living in the last couple of months and bring CFD! the latest info on the patch that just dropped. Along with the usual batch of class tweaks, nerfs, and fixes, this patch promises to stymie the cries of PvPers around the world for, oh, maybe a day or two (if we’re lucky) as the PvP system has been tweaked a bit. In addition Blizzard has added some Auction House functionality that players once had to get from mods such as Auctioneer.
I just jumped on the servers to check out the patch and other than the usual batch of out-of-date mods and mail lag, the servers are looking fairly stable. Of course, this is subject to change as more people log on in the evening. I’ll be back with patch impressions when I get some more time to sit down with it.
In the latest update to Team Fortress 2, Valve sneaked in a little surprise for all the players of the beloved first-person massacre: a new game mode entitled Highlander.
In the new mode, there is a limit of 9 players to each team, and a limit of one of each class per team. So, there can only be one (Heavy, Medic, Engineer, Spy, etc.). Get it? This is definitely an interesting spin on the usual chaos that is team class balance, and as Luke Plunkett of Kotaku pointed out, “… it’ll force people to not only work as a true team, but also hone their skills on unfamiliar classes.”
The new mode is available for play, so tell us what you think! And, if you’re at all curious, click the jump to see the full patch notes for the update.
So, ordinarily our own Mr. Jason Smith would usually be the person handling any WoW-related posts like this. However, seeing as he’s still getting settled in following his interstate move, I suppose I’ll handle this one. Please keep in mind that my own experience with World of Warcraft has been an extremely casual one; I wasn’t part of any guild, never did raids and only ever got one character above 30 (and even then only barely). Just… be gentle, okay?
Patch 3.3 – entitled “Fall of the Lich King” – due to be the last major raid content update (though by no means the final patch) before Cataclysm releases in 2010, is live. New 5-man dungeons have been added as well as the patch’s namesake encounter – a 10/25 man raid on Ice Crown Citadel to take down Arthas, the titular Lich King himself.
Didn’t get your fill of desert the first time around? Well, Fat Princess is coming back for another pass at the table, this time with some updates and a new map in tow (or would that be orbit? You know, what with the whole large size… gravity… thing? I’m… going to shut up now).
Yesterday was patch day and, as usual, it was not without controversy. Among the many changes that were documented there was one change that was not mentioned. Before we get to that though let’s hit the jump to take a look at the patch notes and what they had to say about Battlegrounds.
WoW‘s not the only gaming having a patch go live today (though you’d never know it) – Gas Powered Games and Stardock have pushed out patch v1.19 for Demigod.
According to the game’s forums, another update to the patch is due next Tuesday which will add more features and possible balancing. For now, just hit the jump for the newly live patch notes.
The night before a weekly maintenance is a special time for World of Warcraft players. In between the complaining about not getting to play for 8 hours there’s always the rampant speculation that “The Patch is Going Live Tomorrow.” Well, more often than not, the Patch does not go live, but that wasn’t the case this morning as WoW players were treated to extended downtime and a download. Yep that’s right folks.
The Bit… er Brood Mother is Back!
If you’re unfamiliar with the O.G. Onyxia fight might I suggest that you take a look at this video. Some colorful and adult language is involved but as long as you cast MORE DOTS you should be fine.
Yep, you read that right. It’s a WoW patch on a Wednesday and without any warning to boot. Apparently 3.2 had caused some issues that Blizzard couldn’t hot fix, which required an urgent patch to be released today.
It would appear that Mac users will actually be able to play WoW again after the patch, which should make them all rather happy. You can read all the details after the jump.
You’ve already heard about Team Fortress 2‘s new map, Offblast, but Valve has decided not to stop there. Yesterday they introduced Viaduct, a snowy map based around the new game mode, King of the Hill. Players will find themselves trekking up numerous paths along a central hill to reach the capture point, which sits at the peak. There are also two maps, Nucleus and Sawmill, which have been redesigned to allow for King of the Hill play. Speaking of Sawmill, it’s also getting a second redesign this update, allowing you to add Capture the Flag mode to the list.
Finally, Valve announced another new map: Yukon. Designed by two community members, the Control Point map takes place in a coal mine that has been transformed into a communications outpost. Players will have 5 different points to capture, with plenty of tunnels and rocky paths to get them there. Definitely sounds golden.

Are you one of the many people who have tried to play Fat Princess, only to be met with frustration and disconnects? Well Titan Studios and PSN have heard your cries and released a patch last night to fix lag and connection problems, among other things. Some balance issues were also addressed as well as taking care of some clever exploits, but all in all, the patch will mainly allow you to be able to actually find and play a game.
The patch is only for North America at the moment, but Titan promises Europe and Asia are coming soon. For all the fixes, click the jump.
Yes, it’s that time again already. The time when WoW players everywhere scratch themselves raw as they wait patiently for the servers to come back up after a major content update. Maintenance has already been extended until 3pm PST so take a minute and get to know what Patch 3.2 means to you.
Call of the Crusade – At the core of the content update is a new instance, the Crusaders’ Coliseum, which will feature 10 or 25 man raids as well as a new 5 man dungeon. The emblem system has been revamped allowing casual players a chance to get some Ulduar level gear as all heroics or raids that previously dropped Emblems of Heroism or Valor will now drop Emblems of Conquest. As usual with content updates several classes received some nerfs while others got buffed. Take a look at the wall of text after the jump to find your class and see if you cheer or cry.
Players of Sacred 2: Fallen Angel on PC are getting a patch today to fix what…well to be perfectly honest, what sound to us like a list of relatively minor issues.
But hey, what do we know? Other heroes being too “chatty” in multiplayer could be a deal-breaker for some people. Who can say, right?
Ascaron Entertainment and cdv Software have yet to announce when (or if) Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 players will be seeing this patch on their ends.
Sorry, Sacred 2 console fans – looks like you’ll have to deal with those damn chatty heroes for at least a little while longer.
The rest of you can hit the jump for the full details.
