I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m a huge Kingdom Hearts fan. I’ve played them all and while I’d like to say that I’ve finished them all I can’t. Although the GBA and the DS titles captured the feel of the series, I didn’t like the gameplay, especially the combat, and as such I just couldn’t bring myself to finish them. The controls and camera were clunky and although Square Enix did an admirable job graphically, the games fell short of what I came to expect from Kingdom Hearts visually.
That being said I’ve been waiting for quite some time for some new KH news and Square Enix has finally announced release information for Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep outside of Japan. I’ve always felt that the PSP was the perfect platform for Kingdom Hearts and coming this September it will finally get an installment.
Modern Warfare 2 was a big hit. Treyarch’s World at War was too, just not as successful as series creator Infinity Ward’s successor in the Call of Duty franchise. Now that Infinity Ward is all but kaput, Treyarch’s the main man when someone (read: Activision) says, “HEY, WE WANT MORE CALL OF DUTY.”
So it’s understandable that the newly announced Call of Duty: Black Ops would go for a Modern Warfare vibe with its debut trailer during the NBA Eastern Conference Finals. Take a look for yourselves:
Spiffy, eh? Black Ops gets underway on ELEVEN.NINE.TEN.
The ModNation Racers demo is out, the game is a week away, and then this video hits.
Yes the game is going to be awesome, and yes I’ve played the demo probably more than any other demo ever, but did Sony really need to make me want this game anymore? Apparently so. Seriously with E3 approaching Sony needs to inject Kevin Butler into its press conference.
Substance? What’s that? The first trailer of People Can Fly and Epic’s upcoming shooter, Bulletstorm, is pure style. Want to fill a guy with lead before tossing him against a giant cactus? Sure! How about yanking him toward you with an electro-leash before kicking him into the maw of a hungry plant monster? Why not! And on top of it all, points! Points for everything!
And what better soundtrack for an over-the-top crazy shooter than some good old-fashioned (read: circa 1992) industrial metal? If I could go back in time to ’92 and show my 16 year old self this video with Nine Inch Nails’ “Wish” blasting in the background, I think my head would have exploded, showering current-day me in chunks of skull and gore.
…and then a descriptive score bonus would appear over my gushing neck-stump. Yep. Bulletstorm.
Okay, so I’m not too big of a man to admit this: when Transformers: War For Cybertronwas first announced, all I could think of was “Oh, great. Another crappy Transformers game on the way.” You’d have to forgive me for this, since it’s not like the series has the best track record for quality when it comes to making the jump to home consoles.
But the more information that’s been tricking out surrounding the game’s multiplayer component, the more interested I’ve been getting. It seriously sounds like a giant morphing robot-fan’s wet dream come true. Check the above vid for some details from High Moon Studios on the character classes and loadout options you’ll see.
Transformers: War For Cybertron lands on Earth June 22nd, 2010. Let’s all keep our fingers crossed.
If you haven’t heard already (who’re you kidding?), LittleBigPlanet 2 has been officially announced by Sony. It’s not like Twitter, rumors, and Game Informer leaks weren’t enough proof, but it’s nice to hear from the big guys themselves.
The essential sequel features are here, such as additional stickers, costumes, items, and levels. The biggest addition, however, is the implementation of “puppet A.I.” characters that can be programmed to perform different actions within the levels. Custom cutscenes and control schemes are among the other new features included in Media Molecule’s next game. +Continue Reading
Developers Ninja Theory, the team that brought you the PS3 exclusive Heavenly Sword, have finally released the first video glimpse at their new multiplatform title, Enslaved, over at GameTrailers.
The game, set in a post-apocalyptic world, follows Monkey and Trip as they attempt to flee from some angry looking robotic beasties. The catch? Trip has slapped a control device on Monkey that will kill him if he tries to abandon her. Sounds like the beginning of a beautiful friendship, eh? I predict they’ll be kissing before the end of the game.
Enslaved, only seen heretofore in screenshots, supposedly contains some elements of the classic Chinese tale, Journey to the West, and I have to admit, it looks pretty darn spiffy in motion. Enjoy the GT trailer for now – we’ll replace it with our own once video is available. Done.
We could say we didn’t get this Call of Duty: Black Ops teaser up closer to the day it was released because we just came to after being tortured like the nameless protagonist of the video, but that would probably be kinda crass, huh? Eh, we couldn’t think of a better bit of forced humor. Today’s been trying.
Still, in between the blinding light and blurred vision, we can see small snatches of the game itself and it definitely seems to fit the variety of Cold War-era settings the game will be visiting. Work that pause button and see what you can find yourself.
Call of Duty: Black Ops is coming on November 9th, 2010.
Things have been quiet on the Starkiller front since they first announced Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away (read: last year’s VGAs on Spike).
Two days ago (May 4th – Star Wars Day for those not in the know) that changed as a transmission came in from a far distant planet called Facebook.
Good Lord! Enough with the teasing already! We’ve been waiting since 2005 for Alan Wake and it’s so close we can almost taste it! So what do Microsoft and Remedy do? Why, issue another trailer, of course!
We’ve seen all of this before: flashlights, darkness, spooky trees, road flares, more flashlights, telekinetically thrown objects, more spooky trees. We get it already! You had us at the first “spooky trees,” I promise! I don’t want to have to beg anymore…
I’d like to just “Wake Up” and find that the game has already released. Then I’ll finally be able to get a good night’s sleep.
Alan Wake is due out May 14 in Europe and May 18th here in North America. I suppose it could be worse: Japan has to wait until the 27th. Gomen nasai, guys!
You know, I had planned to start this whole thing off with some manner of Ren & Stimpy reference but you kids today – with your Halos and your Duty Callings – probably wouldn’t care. Those of you who do know understand where I’d be going with this, however.
Regardless, as anyone who played the first Dead Space/watched the animated film/read the comics/bought the Happy Meal/peeled the game piece off of the 44oz Slurpee cup would know, contact with The Marker is a bad idea. In fact, what is it about these ominous, enigmatic space monuments that always causes problems? One minute everything’s fine, the next – “My God! It’s full of stars!”
Well, it seems that poor ol’ Isaac Clarke didn’t make it off the Ishimura without some kind of permanent mental health issues, as evidenced by this first teaser for Dead Space 2. Also, we get our first look at his unmasked face. Not exactly an exciting revelation, but I’m sure it just invalidated somebody’s Dead Space slashfics and fan art, so who am I to say?
Okay, so we’ve done precious little coverage of BioWare’s upcoming Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO since it was announced at E3 last year. That was our bad. We dropped the ball on that one.
So, in honor of today being Star Wars Day (May the 4th be with you!), let’s make it up to you a bit by getting back in the swing of things with this recent, six minute dev diary focusing on combat in SW:TOR. We’re sorry if we disappointed any little Jedi out there. Don’t throw us in the sarlacc pit, okay?
Personally speaking, everything looks a bit stiff and sterile to me, but the game is still a long way from release. I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
Besides, it’s got to be better than Star Wars Galaxies was, right? …right?
I know we’re a bit late to the party here and all of the Halo-heads flooding CFD! to enter the Reach beta code contest have likely had this playing on loop since it premiered earlier this week, but we still wanted to get it up. Anyone with a fear of needles may just want to bow out now, however.
Enjoy this live-action short, detailing the creation of Noble Team leader Carter 259, entitled “Birth of a Spartan.” Maybe it’ll make the wait for Monday go a bit faster, eh?
Finally! The long uncertainty is over! Zeno Clash: Ultimate Edition has a new release date after being stuck in the nebulous zone known as Spring 2010 following it missing its initial April release. Mark your calenders for May 5th, kids (that’s next week) because you’ll be heading on vacation to Zenozoik then.
Also, Atlus dropped a new video on us, revealing a couple of new features exclusive to the XBLA port. Not only is there a new character gallery, but more important to gameplay is the new “Awareness System” where an on-screen indicator shows where other enemies are in relation to your facing; crucial for those multi-combatant fights where adversaries are on all sides.
Enjoy the video below and check out our preview here.
Leave it to Atlus’ PR wing to keep their finger firmly on the pulse of disturbing, surreal pop-culture and commercial trends. First we got the “Natural Sword Enhancement” vid for the upcoming 3D Dot Game Heroes and now we have a new one, taking a stab at those rather bizarre Old Spice ads – you know the ones.
Enjoy and look for our long-delayed 3D Dot Game Heroes preview coming…. oh, how’s today sound? We should probably get that up before the final product releases, huh?
