Alpha Protocol Dev Diary Talks Tech, Toys

What would a daring super-spy be without his daring super-spy gadgets and weapons? And what would an RPG be without loot and gear? The answer to both questions: probably dead in the water.

It’s a darn good thing that Alpha Protocol is packed full of gizmos, guns and other goodies then. Take a look at the newest developer diary from Obsidian and Sega for a peek inside the toybox.

Alpha Protocol is on track for a June 1st, 2010 release.

Trauma Team First Response Tests Your Multi-Tasking

We’re almost done with the Trauma Team walkthrough videos, kids! This one focuses on First Response gameplay, where you take on the role of feisty, spicy paramedic Maria Torres.

First Response plays out similarly to the standard gameplay, but simplified – after all, you’re just trying to stabilize the patient for transport – with the added wrinkle of having to juggle between multiple patients at once. Looks like this’ll be a nail biter on the time management front.

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Trailer Peaks Curiosity

The Shin Megami Tensei series has never been what one would consider ordinary, but Strange Journey (due out later this month on Nintendo DS) is definitely an odd mix of elements.

Take the old-school, first person dungeon hack of the original MegaTen games, mix in a touch of Antarctic weirdness (H.P. Lovecraft’s At The Mountains of Madness says hi) and a response team of science guys wearing helmets that remind me of classic Dr. Who enemies, the Cybermen and you have a recipe for some bizarre demon-smashing.

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey is due out March 23rd. Enjoy the trailer!

Halo: Reach Multiplayer Alpha Footage – Jetpacks and Assassinations!

Yes, this is a bit late – we know. Bungie fans have likely had this footage running on loop for the last few days already anyway, salivating at the chance to dig their teeth into the Halo: Reach beta when it hits. But for those of you who haven’t yet had the chance to see it in action, here it is – footage from the alpha build of Reach’s multiplayer modes!

Infinite Space Launches Your Fleet on March 16th

It’s been a long time coming, having first been teased for a North American release back in 2008, but Sega is finally thawing Infinite Space from cryosleep and preparing it for launch on March 16th.

Developed by Platinum Games and Nude Maker (oh, Japan! You and your names…), Infinite Space looks like every sci-fi anime nerd’s wet dream come true. You get to design your own fleet of ships from over 100 different types, customize them with weapons and other modules, crew them with another 100+ characters, explore two different galaxies, and engage in ship-to-ship combat.

Tour The Sights of Yakuza 3… Except Hostess Bars, That Is

It’s been a busy week of news and media coming out of Sega regarding the impending release of Yakuza 3 in the West. We have a new trailer (which you can see above) showing you around some of the scenic locations you’ll explore in the game, such as the serene Okinawa seaside (for a round of baseball with the kids), the streets of downtown Tokyo (to hit up a karaoke bar, perhaps?), and… erm… your local convenience store? Well, to be fair, we should already be used to that last one from previous titles in the series.

One destination to scratch off your list of tourist attractions, however, will be the original game’s hostess clubs. For an explanation why (and some new screens to go along with the trailer), hit the jump.

Alpha Protocol Decloaks With a Trailer, Screens AND Release Date!

Alpha Protocol, Obsidian’s super-spy RPG, went through some serious last minute reassignment in late 2009. Originally scheduled for October, it got shuttled off to some new top secret assignment less than a month before it was due to deploy, leading some to wonder if it wasn’t quite as ready for the field as we’d been led to believe.

Well, last week Sega finally declassified some new documents surrounding the game, including a new trailer, batch of screenshots and a (hopefully) finalized release date. You can view the trailer above. Hit the jump for the screens and dates.

Calling Dev Diary Discusses J-Horror Versus Western Gore

As any fan of Japanese horror flicks can tell you, the best scares come more from the steady, inexorable building of unsettling atmosphere and tension rather than cheap jump shocks or gratuitous blood and guts. Little doubt then that the team behind Hudson Soft’s Calling would cleave close to their inspirations in these films; the game quite obviously owes a debt to J-horro classics like One Missed Call or Ju-On.

Kazufumi Shimizu, the game’s Director, and Design and Concept head Takeshi Inomata talk about what we can expect when Calling comes to Wii next month. Enjoy!

Jason Voorhees Creates The Most Amazing Fan Art EVER!

Browsing around Kotaku, I happened upon what is quite possibly the single most amazing thing I’ve ever seen a man do with a chainsaw.

It seems uninteresting at first, but give it a few minutes. The guy in the hockey mask does some absolutely amazing things with those chunks of dead wood. The amount of detail is nothing short of astounding, really.
