Yet Another Monster Hunter Bound for PSP

hard_jaw_bmp_jpgcopy

Set your calendars, fellow Monster Hunter junkies, because come December 1st you’ll be able to import a third (technically a fourth) epic hunt-a-thon for way too much money. But oh, will it ever be worth it.

There aren’t many specifics available at this time, but it’s been confirmed that the aptly-named Monster Hunter Portable 3rd will include new monsters and gear (obviously), as well as some new zones. Will it be a portable version of Monster Hunter Portable Tri (*pictured*)? It seems likely but we won’t know for certain until this year’s TGS, where Kotaku has stated there will be a playable version available for hogging. So, stay tuned for more info, I’ll be watching this game like a hawk and telling everyone who will listen all about it. Sure there’s no US release listed yet, but given the series’ history it’s practically a given.

Telltale’s Back to the Future Will Feature the Real Doc Brown

backtothefuture

Some of you may recall that Telltale Games announced their Back to the Future game a while back. If not, you know now. But that’s not the big news. The big news is that the man himself, Christopher Lloyd, will be providing the voice for Doctor Emmet Brown in the planned five episode series.

US Today has reported that the esteemed thespian will indeed be voicing Doc Brown. Not only that, Bob Gale (the screenplay writer for all three movies) will be working with Telltale on the story. There will be a DeLorean. There will be visits to Hill Valley. There will be Gigawatts. And who knows? There just might be a Day of the Tentacle-esque time travel mechanic. Are we excited now? I think we are.

Xbox Live is About to Get More Expensive

xbox_live_vertical_logo

So. The PlayStation 3 lets people play games online and watch Netflix streaming for free. You run a competing console that charges for the same services. What do you do? You drop the price of your online service, offer it for free, or enhance your features to justify the price difference, right?

“Never Follow Me” – Final Dragon Age DLC Revealed

witch_hunt001

In the interest of full disclosure:  I fucking loved Dragon Age: Origins. It was my game of the year of 2009 and it made my wife into a gamer, so it will always hold a soft spot in my heart. I would have that game’s baby and never ask for child support.

Aside from the nearly criminal visuals, only one thing bothered me about the game: Where did Morrigan go? Without spoiling anything from Origins, let’s just say that everyone’s favorite swamp witch left with something that belonged to the Grey Warden, and the recent Dragon Age II article in Game Informer hinted that I’d have to wait for the sequel next March to get the nail-biting conclusion.

Playing Portal To Be Required to Graduate Wabash College

portal_1

Students at Wabash College this spring will be putting down their textbooks and picking up a controller, according to one teacher.

Michael Abbot, a professor at Wabash and editor of gaming community site The Brainy Gamer, has revealed that “alongside Gilgamesh, Aristotle’s Politics, John Donne’s poetry, Shakespeare’s Hamlet, and the Tao Te Ching, freshmen at Wabash will also encounter a video game called Portal.” The game will be played in a new course called “Enduring Questions,” a class “devoted to engaging students with fundamental questions of humanity from multiple perspectives.”

Age of Empires Goes “Freemium” With Persistent Online in 2011

age-online-logo

Those who pay attention to our marvelously irregular podcast will know that I’m a one-trick pony when it comes to RTS games on PC. I played Age of Empires II nonstop for nearly ten years, so when Microsoft Game Studios announced that Age of Empires Online was in the works at Robot Entertainment (the successor to series creators Ensemble Studios), I danced for joy.

Mass Effect 2 Making the Jump to PS3

screenshot-066-o

Been itching to play one of the best RPG’s of the year but never got around to buying an Xbox? Well, don’t fear the Reapers because Commander Shepard and his crew are taking the Normandy 2 to the Sony galaxy in January 2011.

At the Gamescom conference in Germany, EA announced Tuesday that Mass Effect 2 will be coming to PS3 at the beginning of next year with “hours of bonus content.” No word yet on the extent of this content, but BioWare CEO Ray Muzyka promises “a seamless introduction to the world of Mass Effect, for players that haven’t experienced it before” that “provides a lot of the back-story and introduces you well to the story-arc.” Which is handy, as the Microsoft-published original game will come out on a Sony console when hell freezes over.

Machinarium Developers Offer “Amnesty” to Pirates With $5 Sale

machinarium_pirates_1200

UPDATE: Amanita Design has just extended the cutoff date for the sale to August 16th. So just in case you “forgot” to buy it before, now you have a few more days to fix that problem.

—-

They’ve been around ever since the Dawn of Man. Thieves, Crooks, Robbers, Brigands, Cattle Rustlers, Pirates, etc… Ever since people have existed, there’s always been those who would prefer to simply take rather than earn.

F*cking scumbags, the lot of them.

It’s no surprise that Amanita Design’s phenomenal (and peerless) adventure game, Machinarium, has been pirated. Despite the fact that a hard copy is only $20 and includes the game, soundtrack and a special bonus EP, and the other fact that it’s made by a small group of people (an independent developer, if you will) as opposed to a massive, soulless corporation, people still stole it. Rather than get mad (although I’m sure they did anyway), Amanita Design is actually giving these human brown-eyes a chance to make amends in the form of a special 75% Off sale.

Halo: Reach is “Finished”, Gets New Trailer

The folks at Bungie have wrapped up their “swan song”, Halo: Reach, and are moving onto whatever the hell they’re doing for Activision for the next ten years.

Seriously, they’re moving. Bungie’s got to be finished with everything at the moment, since they’re moving their whole office to a new location. If that’s not a sign the disk has been shipped off to Microsoft, I don’t know what is.

There’s also a shiny new trailer for the “Most Highly Anticipated Game of 2010,” so take a look for yourself. Also, email those folks a picture of you holding StarCraft II and flipping them off. Lying bastards.

Batman: Arkham Asylum 2 Getting First Details Next Month

11

The sequel to last year’s smash hit, Batman: Arkham Asylum, will be getting the magazine treatment next month.

Both Official Playstation Magazine and Official Xbox Magazine will be first on scene with exclusive details and screenshots when their issues drop on September 2, 2010.

Announced during Spike’s VGAs in December, little to no information about the Batman sequel has seen the light of day, although some grumblings about Talia al Ghul, Mr. Freeze, and Two-Face making an appearance have certainly peaked my interest. Let’s see how this plays out, shall we?

Another Year, Another Madden (Lawsuit)

madden11_e3_2

Those poor chaps at EA just can’t get a break.

It seems like each time they release a successful football simulator, professional or college, they always feel the sting of the legal paddle.

To commemorate the release of Madden NFL 11, a class action lawsuit by almost 6,000 retired NFL players has been filed against EA for the use of player likenesses in Madden 09’s historic teams.

The Sims Medieval Arrives in the Future!

tsm_duel

Taking quite a different direction from the previous editions of the franchise, The Sims are about to take a journey back in time.

Halo: Reach Gets Versus Firefight, Forge Expands

reach_ff_courtyard06

During last week’s Comic-Con spectacular, Bungie revealed two major additions to its already beefy Halo spin-off, Halo: Reach. Both should be familiar to Halo fans, but might not be quite what they expected based on previous iterations of the franchise.

StarCraft II Sells 1.5 Million Units in 48 Hours

ss66-hires

People like that StarCraft, eh?

Thanks to its highly anticipated launch after nearly 12 years of waiting, fans responded to the sci-fi sequel in a big way, accounting for 1.5 million sales in the first two days of availability.

It’s already the highest-selling PC game of this year and the fastest-selling strategy game “of all time.” And that’s only one-third of the whole game!

But is it any good? We’ll find out when CFD!’s John DeLuca emerges from the bowels of his computer chair and reviews the game. Stay tuned, dear readers.

Fable III PC Delayed, On a “Different Schedule”

fable_iii_screenshot_hero_with_daughter

In a move that should really surprise no one, the PC version of Fable III has been delayed to an undetermined later date.

A Microsoft rep told IGN that while the 360 edition of the game is on track for its October 26 release date, the two versions “are now on different schedules as we’re focusing on building experiences optimized for each platform.”

Given the fact that Fable II never saw the light of day on PC, I wouldn’t mind seeing a quick port show up a few months before the sequel comes out so PC gamers are caught up. Hopefully this gives Microsoft a bit of headroom in that department.

Please? …Plllleeease?
