And the contest is closed, folks. It’s all over but the screaming. Well, there’s still plenty of screaming, I suppose, but that’s pretty damn metal, right?
Thanks to everybody who entered. We wish we’d been able to put it together with a bit more notice, but we wanted to make sure that we gave out the codes before too long, otherwise it wouldn’t end up being very much of an early access, would it?
For those of you who forgot, we asked for your answers to the following question:
“Brütal Legend is already the most metal game of all time. However, if the Gods of Metal allowed you to add just one thing to it that would make the game even more metal (if indeed that were possible), what would it be?”
Or maybe your local store just ran out of codes by the time your hangover from the big concert’s after party wore off?
Don’t worry – Crush! Frag! Destroy! has your back!
We have two codes to give away, one for PS3 and one for Xbox 360, and all we need you to do is answer this one question:
“Brütal Legend is already the most metal game of all time. However, if the Gods of Metal allowed you to add just one thing to it that would make the game even more metal (if indeed that were possible), what would it be?”
If you don’t already have an account at CFD!, sign up for one using the login at the top of the left sidebar (be sure to use a valid email address so we can get the code to you if you win) and leave your suggestions in the comments below. Don’t forget to specify which system you want the code for. One entry per person.
We will pick a winner from the best suggestions (one on each platform) tomorrow night at midnight Eastern/9pm Pacific time, so you’ll need to act faster than Yngwie Malmsteen’s fingers if you want to get in on this!
(And we swear, that is probably the only time you’ll ever see Yngwie’s name mentioned on this site.)
First off, I’d just like to thank each and every one of you who participated in this contest. When I started this site a little over six months ago, I don’t think I would have anticipated it growing as much as it has in the short time it’s been around.
I’d like to thank all my friends who followed me here from 1up.com, some of whom just to read and comment, some of whom ended up joining on and writing for CFD! as well. I’d like to thank everyone who referred a friend to us, RT’ed a tweet or reposted a story on Facebook. I’d like to thank every random, anonymous person who found us via a Google search or link on another site and actually came back to visit us a second or third time of their own accord.
I’d buy each and every one of you a game if I could. But, sadly, I’m not made of money. That will not, however, stop me from rewarding you guys for readership and loyalty whenever I can, which is why I wanted to run this contest in the first place. We hit a nice milestone at six months and I hope we have many more to come. Let’s see where we can go from here, okay? I’d love for you all to join me on the ride.
But enough touchy-feely emotional crap – you all want to know who won, right? That’s what I’m here to tell you.
We took all of your entries, calculated them up and then assigned a range of numbers to each contestant, based on the order they entered the contest. We then consulted the stars, cast the bones and divined the future in the entrails of a goat. When that failed to help us we drew a random number instead, thanks to the good folks at Random.org, and compared it to the chart. We probably should have thought of that a bit sooner, because now the gr3ml1n5 are playing in the goat blood and making rather a big mess of the place. But I digress…
Without further ado, the winner of the Crush! Frag! Destroy! Six Month Anniversary Free Game Giveaway is…
Well, the CFD! six month anniversary free game giveaway is over and it looks like bribery works. Rewarding interaction with extra entries got you all to stop being so quiet and non-participatory out there and we’re rather pleased with the response.
Thanks go to all of you who joined-up, spoke up and generally made this one of our better weeks, even if it was a bit news-light. Thanks to everyone who re-tweeted our contest (including 1up/EGM/Current alum, Phil Kollar, soon-to-be of Game Informer) and got involved. Just generally thanks to everyone who’s helped keep us going for the last six months.
“But enough of that,” you say. “Who won?” Good question. However, for the answer to that you’ll have to wait until tomorrow. It won’t be too long to hold out, will it?
So, as we mentioned yesterday, August 22nd was Crush! Frag! Destroy!’s six month anniversary – half a year that we’ve been up and running. My, how the time flies, huh? In the time that we’ve been here, we’ve gone from a tiny trickle of traffic to recently receiving a rather substantial surge of new eyes on the site from all over the net.
And what better way to thank you than with free stuff!
Some of you may recall we did a small giveaway on the site’s one month anniversary – we gave out the winner’s choice of a $20 card for either PlayStation Network, Xbox Live or the Wii Shop. We decided to up the ante a bit this time around.
How does a full game for the platform of your choice sound?
Interested? Then head under the jump for all the details.
That’s it. Throw in the towel. It’s all over but the shouting.
Atlus just revealed that a name has been chosen in their contest to localize the title for Kenka Bancho 3, as we announced last week.
According to this post on the Altus forums, it was no contest. The winner, by a 3-to-1 margin, was “Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble”.
“The title [...]perfectly suits the gameplay style, attitude, and humor that PSP owners can look forward to when the over-the-top brawler arrives early next year,” said Atlus Sales and PR Manager, Aram Jabbari
“The game is about demonstrating to your rivals that you are the ultimate badass. This is accomplished, unsurprisingly, by burying your fists and feet into the faces and/or guts of your foes,” Jabbari continues. “The title was voted in by a 3-to-1 margin, which means that fans strongly felt it was the best fit for the game, or, that they all giggled uncontrollably at the sight of the word ‘badass’. Either way, everybody wins, except of course for the titles not chosen.”
Speaking as someone who voted for that exact title, I’m glad to see good taste prevailed. The localized title has all the Japanese goodness that Nihongo-philes want with all the badassery that comes with having the word ‘Badass’ in the name. Seems like a win/win to me.
Are you the go-to guy for snappy one-liners at your place of employment? Maybe an aspiring comedian looking to break into the world of adventure game writing? Perhaps just a general wise-ass? Then take heed, mateys – Monkey Island is calling for you.
Telltale Games wants to know how Guybrush Threepwood did you dirty, assuming you were a pirate in the world of Tales of Monkey Island, that is.
Here’s the deal – send them your tales of how Guybrush wronged your fictional pirate at some point in the past and the best entries will be possibly be recorded for inclusion in the episodic title’s October chapter.
The Xbox Live community were the first to reach the stated goal of 43 million kills in the Battlefield 1943 “Coral Sea Challenge”. Congratulations, everyone!
As we mentioned a couple of days back, this means they get first access to the new Coral Sea map, as well as the “Air Superiority” gameplay mode. The soldiers on PlayStation Network, meanwhile, are languishing somewhere in the 20 million+ zone at the moment.
We can probably safely assume that the speed with which they met their goal – five days – comes from a much larger sell-through on the Xbox 360 version of Battlefield 1943 over the PlayStation 3′s version.
What about all of you? Which side of the war effort did you contribute to? Personally speaking, CFD! is running on the 360 side, even if we didn’t contribute that many kills to the total – but hey! Every little bit counts, right?
Nothing like a little good old fashioned slaughter race to get the blood pumping in the morning, eh boys?
It’s a platform versus platform race to unlock new content in Battlefield 1943‘s Coral Sea Challenge. If you head over to the game’s official site, you’ll see that DICE is keeping a running tally of kills by platform. When the total reaches 43 million for either Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, they unlock the “Coral Sea” map.
As of the time of this writing, Xbox 360 is more than halfway to the goal, clocking in at well over 23 million+ while PlayStation struggles at just a little over 13 million. Come on, PS3 owners! Get the lead out! The war will be over at this rate by the time you get it unlocked.
For the record, I plan to pick it up for Xbox 360 as well. Not calling myself a banana rider or anything, mind you – I just like to make sure I have a community to play with…
It’s okay – I don’t know the name either, but that’s because it doesn’t have one…not yet at least. You could change that though if you’re creative enough. PixelJunk are look for fan submissions to name their latest offering. So head over to their site, check out the video and get your creative juices flowing. Once you’ve found the perfect name, click http://pixeljunk.jp/namingcontest/ and submit it.
The winner will see their name in the credits as well as recieve a t-shirt. A t-shirt? That seems a bit mundane. Personally, I’d rather have won some concept drawings or something, but maybe it’s a really awesome t-shirt.
Fresh and fruity synthpop trio, Freezepop – who you may know from their ubiquitousness in the music/rhythm video game genre – are embarking on a Spring tour of the Midwest that kicks off April 3rd in New York City. Check their site for locations and dates; if you’re going to be anywhere in the vicinity, you owe it to yourself to go experience one of the most fun live bands you’ll probably ever see.
But if you can’t make it out to see them (or are just unfortunate enough not to live anywhere near the tour route), don’t fret – CFD has your back. At their April 7th show in Lansing, Michigan, Crush! Frag! Destroy! will be conducting an exclusive interview with Freezepop and we want to give you, our dear readers, a chance to be a part of it (and win some spiffy-cool free stuff in the process, of course).
“Sounds great!” you say. “But what do I have to do?”
It’s quite simple, really – check under the cut for more details
First, I apologize for not getting this up sooner – the last couple of days have been slightly hectic. I planned to pick the winner on Sunday but uhh, as we can see, that didn’t happen.
Secondly, thank you to everyone who entered and more importantly, thank you to everybody who’s been coming to the site, reading and commenting and (hopefully) telling your friends about us. Here’s to hoping we can keep doing this for a long, long time to come.
*AHEM*
So, you want me to get around to picking a winner, right? Yeah, I understand – “Stop talking and give us the free stuff, punk!”
So here we go – we’ve assigned a number to each one of the comments below and drawn one via Random.org. Drumroll please…
Wow, who would have thought it? Today, Sunday the 22nd, marks one month that Crush! Frag! Destroy! has been up and open to the public.
This officially makes it the longest running project of any that I’ve started up. I’m not going to let a poor past track record stop me, however. I plan on continuing to do this for the foreseeable future, so long as I’m still enjoying myself and you all still keep visiting, reading and commenting.
So, in celebration, we feel like giving some stuff away! Mind you, it’s not the biggest prize on earth – we have to save something for the really big anniversaries down the road – but hey, it’s free, right? Who doesn’t like free stuff?
So, here’s the deal. We’re giving away a card for your choice of either 1600 Microsoft points, 2000 Wii Shop points or $20 for the PlayStation Network store.
Join the CFD! editorial staff as they bicker incessantly and vent their collective neuroses on air... and somewhere along the way they talk about games too.
