While the industry bigwigs are off playing at the 2010 Game Developers Conference, hobnobbing and rubbing elbows with one another, having fun at their fancy parties and drinking copious amounts of alcohol, for us lowly peons in the independent games press it’s just another Friday night.
And you know what that means, right? Weekend Warriors time!
I’ve been sucked into the demo for Chime on XBLA pretty hard, which I’m sure I’ll be purchasing when I have a couple hundred more points to spare. Also, I’m considering poopsocking the first two Yakuza games in preparation for Yakuza 3, but still have yet to decide for sure on that one. Beyond that, I may be playing the notoriously hard-to-start-up “Podcast Recording” game tomorrow as well as the “Finish Writing Reviews and Previews” game – one that I haven’t picked up in far too long.

Are you a fan of real world cars and locations but always thought standard racing games were a bit… dull?
Do you like the power-ups and over-the-top nature of kart racers but can’t get behind the cartoony style?
Looks like Activision’s Blur might be to your liking, then. And what luck! – CFD! is giving away codes for the recently started Xbox 360 multiplayer beta!
Ready to get your Blur on? Race past the jump for details…

It feels like winter is finally on the outs around here in Western Michigan. The temps have been creeping up into the 40s, the huge mass of snow is melting off and there’s this strange, bright, hot ball in the sky that seems like it should be vaguely familiar, but I can’t quite place it for some reason.
Still, it’s not quite nice enough out to be planning picnics and other outdoor excursions just yet, so you know what means – more video games!
Oddly enough, this is the first weekend in a while where I’ve actually been playing stuff instead of just writing about it. This weekend’s fare consists of what I’d much rather have been looking at for the last three months instead of snow: Heavy Rain. Not sure if anything else will be in the plans for this weekend yet, but I wouldn’t rule it out.
What about all of you? How’s the weather looking in your part of the world? Is winter finally on its way out? And more importantly, whatcha playing this weekend? Hit the comments below and let us know!

Hey there, everyone! It’s contest wrap-up time!
Sorry about the delay in getting the winners up. Don’t think we forgot about you all! We just got a little overloaded with working on a bunch of other things (like trying to get more giveaways secured for you all – more on that in another post coming soon) and it just slipped past us. We actually did pick winners after the cutoff on Monday night, however, just like we promised.
And who are those lucky four winners, you ask? For that info, you’re going to have to head under the jump…

It may be the middle of February, but it’s not too late to enjoy the first official weekend of the year.
That’s right: it’s the first Weekend Warriors of 2010!
Better late than never, right? Hopefully you’ve been able to keep the winter doldrums at bay since we’ve been gone. If you’re anything like me, your backlog of games has increased dramatically in the past several months. Fear not, that’s what the weekend is here for!

We mentioned around the time of our recent reboot that we wanted to do some giveaways to celebrate CFD!’s one year anniversary this month and we do our best to make good on our promises. So here we go!
We’re sure you may have heard tell about the Darksiders giveaway, where some early purchasers of the game received a mystery code, the purpose of which was only recently revealed. Well, it seems that CFD! has found itself in possession of a stack of these codes and it would be greedy of us to just hold on to them all ourselves. So, we here at Crush! Frag! Destroy!, being the generous souls we are, are giving away not one, not two, not even three, but four (!) sets of prizes for this particular contest! Each winner will receive a digital Hellbook disc, containing “Darksiders art, videos, and other awesome stuff!” as well as a copy of THQ’s Red Faction: Guerrilla for either PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360!
Wanna know how? Hit the jump for all the rules and details…

As 2009 winds to a close, gamers around the world look back and reflect on the year that just passed. And while it may be ridiculously cliche, as rarely does a year go by without someone saying it, I’ll say it anyway…
What a spectacular year it was for games!
Seriously, 2009 – even with its myriad delays and controversies, not to mention a huge Recession – turned out some interesting, engrossing, and just plain amazing games.
Meanwhile, we here at CFD! are likewise winding down the year. In the midst of staff being busy with travel, moving and various engagements (as well as preparing for our first anniversary in operation next February) we kind of forgot until the last minute that… you know… maybe we should chime in on our picks for “Game of the Year”, like every other site is doing?
So while we’ve been discussing and voting on that amongst ourselves, we also want to hear what you guys thought were the best games of 2009.
Enter – Crush! Frag! Destroy!’s 2009 Game of the Year Reader’s Choice!

Is this thing on? It… it is? Oh!
Hey everyone! Wow – long time, no see! And only a day late too!
So, erm, after a couple of weeks off it looks as if we’re back with another Weekend Warriors. Hope you all are still hanging in there after that little hiatus. We’ll try to be better about it from here on out.
As for what I’m going to be playing this weekend, I’m about to pop Silent Hill: Shattered Memories in soon for Wii. I’ll likely also get some Team Fortress 2 time in to check out the new updates. Beyond that? I have pretty much zero clue.
Yeah that was kind of a rusty return, but give me a break; I’m out of practice. So what about all of you out there? What does this weekend hold in store for you? Hope if anyone out there is braving the malls this holiday season that you stay safe and drive carefully – I know the East Coast is due for a ton of snow this weekend.

Hello again, everybody!
After a missed week, Weekend Warriors returns again. We hope you didn’t miss us too much. We already feel bad enough for having slacked off as it is; we don’t need more of a guilt complex to compound the issue.
So what are you all playing out there this time around, beyond Turkey Coma IV and Black Friday Shopping Massacre? As for myself, I finally gave Borderlands a start. I also snagged both Dragon Age: Origins and Left 4 Dead 2 on sale today, so chances are pretty high that they’ll see some controller time this weekend too.
Beyond that, I’m not sure what else I’ll be up to. I just snagged a new 500GB external hard drive, so I’ll be relocating my music from off of my laptop which will clear up a ton of space. Maybe I can actually get around to installing all the games I’ve gotten recently on Steam that I haven’t been able to install.
How about all of you? Did any of you score some awesome deals today that’ll be occupying your disc trays in the near future? Sound off in the comments, as always, and let us know what you’re up to.
Based on what I’ve been seeing on my Xbox Live friends list for the last few days, I think I can make a pretty safe assumption as to what a good number of you are going to be doing this weekend. Still, that doesn’t mean we won’t at least ask. Who knows? You could surprise us. Stranger things have happened, after all.
As for me, besides doing my best to try and not think about today being my birthday, I’ll be probably doing the same as many of you – playing Modern Warfare 2. I already got some multiplayer time in today, including a match with 1UP’s Tina Sanchez and one of the Infinity Ward devs, and I think there will be a fair bit more to come before the weekend is over. I also need to finally finish up the last bits of DJ Hero and Military Madness: Nectaris for review. I honestly should really be focusing on those to the exclusion of all else right now, but MW2’s siren song is pretty hard to resist.
What about everyone else? What’s on your plate (besides Modern Warfare, that is) this weekend? Hit the comments up below and let us know.
