A little while back it was announced that Oddworld Inhabitants passed the torch to Just Add Water. It was also mentioned that they had several projects planned. Well one such project was just made official: An HD remake of Stranger’s Wrath for PSN. Yes, you read that correctly. Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath is making a comeback. So folks who have been waiting for what feels like ages to be able to play one hell of a great game on a current-gen console only have to wait a little longer. If you want to know just how long, you’ll have to hit the jump.

As you may know, our very own Editor-in-Chief Rob Thomas, Associate Editor Sage Knox and Contributing Editor Aubrey Klanecky are over at PAX this week, schmoozing with all manner of big name developers and highly anticipated games. One such developer happens to be Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, and they’re showing off their future lineup over at “It’s Like E3, Only Better.”
Seeing as they’ve been gracious enough to share all these Super Scribblenauts screens with us, it’s only fair that we in-turn share them with you. So whip out that dictionary, start thinking outside the box and oogle these new shots (and a list of features) after the jump.

Set your calendars, fellow Monster Hunter junkies, because come December 1st you’ll be able to import a third (technically a fourth) epic hunt-a-thon for way too much money. But oh, will it ever be worth it.
There aren’t many specifics available at this time, but it’s been confirmed that the aptly-named Monster Hunter Portable 3rd will include new monsters and gear (obviously), as well as some new zones. Will it be a portable version of Monster Hunter Portable Tri (*pictured*)? It seems likely but we won’t know for certain until this year’s TGS, where Kotaku has stated there will be a playable version available for hogging. So, stay tuned for more info, I’ll be watching this game like a hawk and telling everyone who will listen all about it. Sure there’s no US release listed yet, but given the series’ history it’s practically a given.

Some of you may recall that Telltale Games announced their Back to the Future game a while back. If not, you know now. But that’s not the big news. The big news is that the man himself, Christopher Lloyd, will be providing the voice for Doctor Emmet Brown in the planned five episode series.
US Today has reported that the esteemed thespian will indeed be voicing Doc Brown. Not only that, Bob Gale (the screenplay writer for all three movies) will be working with Telltale on the story. There will be a DeLorean. There will be visits to Hill Valley. There will be Gigawatts. And who knows? There just might be a Day of the Tentacle-esque time travel mechanic. Are we excited now? I think we are.

Xbox Live Indie-Dome is a weekly feature where we sift through the Xbox Live Indie Games Marketplace to find the best and worst... so you don't have to!
Welcome once again (and again, and again) to still one more edition of the Indie-Dome. This week has been… interesting to say the least. Just skip ahead to the likes of The ADVENTURES of CAPTAIN Becky to see what I’m talking about. Are you back? Okay, good.
So it’s been a weird week filled with weird games, but I like weird so it hasn’t been all bad. It’s actually been fairly middle-of-the-road barring a few exceptions. So anyway, these are the games that came out between August 16th and 22nd and this is what I think about them.

Welcome one and all to another CFD! bi-weekly feature! This here is our new bi-weekly report on free games. Not just free games, but free games that are exceptionally awesome and you need to play. Basically, they’re Free Games What Need Playing.
Some may be browser-based and others might require a download, but they’re all free and very much worth your time. They won’t all be brand-spanking new, but just because they’ve been floating around the internet for a while doesn’t mean everyone has heard of them before, right? So with that in mind, I present to you this week’s Games What Need Playing.

Aaaaand I’m back. I feel much better now, thanks for asking.
It’s been an interesting week for indie games, I must say. There were some typical mediocre attempts at adding to an already over-saturated genre, some shining moments of awesome and even one very unique (and damn near coma-inducing) take on puzzle games. All-in-all, I’ve enjoyed seeing what bizarre/dull/idiotic/genius concepts the Live indie developers have offered up. Let’s hope next week is as varied as this one was.

UPDATE: Amanita Design has just extended the cutoff date for the sale to August 16th. So just in case you “forgot” to buy it before, now you have a few more days to fix that problem.
—-
They’ve been around ever since the Dawn of Man. Thieves, Crooks, Robbers, Brigands, Cattle Rustlers, Pirates, etc… Ever since people have existed, there’s always been those who would prefer to simply take rather than earn.
F*cking scumbags, the lot of them.
It’s no surprise that Amanita Design’s phenomenal (and peerless) adventure game, Machinarium, has been pirated. Despite the fact that a hard copy is only $20 and includes the game, soundtrack and a special bonus EP, and the other fact that it’s made by a small group of people (an independent developer, if you will) as opposed to a massive, soulless corporation, people still stole it. Rather than get mad (although I’m sure they did anyway), Amanita Design is actually giving these human brown-eyes a chance to make amends in the form of a special 75% Off sale.

Captain’s First Mate’s Log
Stardate: No one ever cares about this part
The crew is holding together rather well, given the circumstances. Morale has slowly been on the rise since Simmons’ vision returned. Even so, I can’t help but worry about our future. I feel as though we may just be in the eye of the storm, as it were.
We’ve just finished our exchange with a nearby merchant vessel. Apart from the basic necessities we’ve also acquired a few data disks with some home-made programs that promise to help ease the passage of time on this long voyage. I hope they keep the crew in high spirits, but the rumors of ships lost in the void due to “bad game mutinies” continue to rattle around in my head.
I think I’ll go check on the crew one more time…

Hey kids! Other Rob is back in the hot seat with a host of new indie games for you to enjoy and/or lament. In keeping with our new format, each and every game will get a mention, but only the really good (or the really awful) will get a full “mini-review.” To be honest, we aren’t off to such a great start; the very first game for this week’s Dome was actually broken. But that’s not to say things won’t get better as the week goes on, right?
… Right?

It’s fairly common knowledge that the original Persona 3 was kind of a big deal. The idea of merging a “dating sim” with the typical grind-fest everyone associates with JRPGs was met with trepidation from virtually every angle. And yet, as more details came to light, people couldn’t help but wonder “What if…?” After all, the latest Mega Ten games at that time (Nocturne, Digital Devil Saga) were a huge hit with JRPG fans, and it had been far too long since anyone screamed “Persona!” Perhaps the time was right.
Then Persona 3 hit, and it punched a hole in the RPG world bigger than any Meteor ever could.
It was similar to and yet completely unlike any other RPG available; juggling your days between killing monsters for experience and items, studying for midterms and forging friendships that would stick with you long after the last of the credits scrolled on-screen. Persona 3 told a unique and engaging story with very mature themes, despite you playing the part of a high school student, and has received many (deserved) accolades because of it. It even had a “director’s cut” release in the form of Persona 3: FES, which included new Personas, new Social Links, new weapons and items as well as a second follow-up story, titled “The Answer.”
So what did they change in order to cram all of that into your hands, and how does that affect the game?
Quite simply, Persona 3 Portable is the version to own if you have a PSP.

Do you love Marvel vs. Capcom 2? Are you looking forward to Marvel vs. Capcom 3? Have you been holding your breath in anticipation for the next roster announcement? If so, you’re either dead or have some seriously impressive lung-capacity. In any case, Capcom has revealed four more fighters for the follow-up to one of gamedom’s most celebrated fighting games prior to San Diego Comic-Con 2010:
- Super-Skrull (Marvel – Invasion)
- Chun-Li (Capcom – Street Fighter)
- Doctor Doom (Marvel – Fantastic Four)
- Trish (Capcom – Deveil May Cry)
So there you have it. Some old, some new and a decent collection of hyphens. One would think Doctor Doom and Chun-Li will be similar to their previous iterations, but the other two could be interesting. Granted I’m a video game nerd, not a comic book nerd, so Super-Skrull means squat to me, but playing as Trish could be interesting. Especially when teaming up with/squaring off against Dante. Hmmmm…
Enjoy some screens, fresh from Comic-Con, under the jump.

Throughout the course of my gaming life (roughly 20+ years and counting) I’ve played a lot of games. Stay with me now, I’m going somewhere with this. As I’m sure anyone with a similar background to my own can attest (CFD! readers, feel free to back me up), in every “generation” there are always a few titles that stand out more than the rest. For example, if you talk about the NES, peoples’ brains are apt to fix on something like Mega Man 2 or Super Mario Bros. as opposed to Clash At Demonhead. Mention the PlayStation years and it’s bound to be games like Symphony of the Night or Final Fantasy VII. The reason I’m bringing all of this up is because you’ll be hard-pressed to find someone who was alive and of controller-using age at the time who wouldn’t consider Earthworm Jim one of the SNES/Genesis era’s “Classics.”
Shiny Entertainment’s princess saving, crow bounty hunter beating, head whipping, cow launching, Queen Pulsating, Bloated, Festering, Sweaty, Pus-filled, Malformed, Slug-for-a-Butt destroying little earthworm that could is every bit as much of an icon for his time as the blue hedgehog and the ethnically-stereotyped plumber. Of course, like most mascots circa the mid-90′s, Jim never amounted to much after his breakout hit. Earthworm Jim 2 was a great game, but it wasn’t as great as the original and the less said about the other attempts at continuing his legacy the better. Enter Earthworm Jim HD. It’s the same Jim we all loved once upon a time, only now he comes with slick graphics and a reworked soundtrack.
But was our love for Jim purely grounded in nostalgia, or is there more to it than that? Would revisiting his mission to save Princess What’s-Her-Name and thwart the evil Queen Slug-for-a-Butt’s plans for galactic conquest even be worth it today?
You bet your ass it would.

Well, it looks like those crazy politicians are at it again. The video game industry finds itself in the crosshairs of uninformed political lapdogs and lazy parents once more. Gamasutra has reported that a proposed California law meant to ban the sale of mature video games to minors has just received support from eleven other state representatives. Connecticut, Louisiana, Hawaii, Illinois, Florida, Maryland, Michigan, Texas, Mississippi, Minnesota, and Virginia to be exact.

Uncertain of his Sister’s Fate, a Boy enters LIMBO.
You lay in the grass for a few moments, unsure of your surroundings. You slowly open your eyes and look around; you’re in the middle of some kind of forest. Massive trees block out most of the sunlight, forcing you to wait as your eyes adjust. You toss a brief glance back over your shoulder, seeing nothing but dense foliage and shadows behind you. With no idea of where you’re going or how to get there you decide to simply move forward, toward the light.
You climb across the fallen husk of a long-dead tree and find yourself standing at the edge of a small ravine. Knowing that a dead-end is all that awaits you in the opposite direction you continue on, sliding down the embankment leaving yourself no way back. At the bottom you find a small gap. You carefully lower yourself into it, realizing too late that the bottom is filled with sharp and pointed branches. The world goes black.
You open your eyes and find yourself standing on the felled tree once more. You descend the embankment a second time and carefully leap over the fatal gap, stopping only for a moment to look back at what was and was not your final resting place. You push on, uncertain of what awaits you but unwilling to relent.
