UPDATE: The dashboard update should be rolling out now, according to Major Nelson.
Out of the current generation of consoles the PlayStation 3 has always been the most media-focused, but the latest Xbox Live dashboard update is poised to give it some competition.
The update will be the first stage in adding support for 17 different video and music services for US users–most of which will provide free content to Gold subscribers. These new services include: Bravo, CinemaNow, Crackle, Dailymotion, EPIX, HBO GO, iHeartRadio, Manga Entertainment, MSN with MSNBC, Syfy, TMZ, The Today Show, UFC, Verizon Fios TV, VEVO, Xfinity On Demand, and YouTube.

It will also add more Kinect navigation support, integrating voice and gesture commands to Zune video, the Xbox Marketplace, and select partner services.
The update was due out this morning at 10 AM ET but according to Major Nelson it has been “slightly delayed.” There are no details yet as to when it will be available but keep an eye on Major Nelson’s Twitter for the latest news.
