The Muppets

I normally try to keep Crush! Frag! Destroy! a fairly apolitical place, despite my personal political leanings, due to wanting to be as all-inclusive as possible. This, however, was too incredible to just pass up. Seriously.

File it under “Slow News Day” or just plain ol’ “Batshit Crazy,” but Fox Business Network’s “Follow The Money” must have been hurting for content when they decided to run this bit, invoking the specter of Joseph McCarthy by claiming that the recently released film The Muppets is teaching our children pro-Communist, anti-capitalist values. How so, you ask? Well, it’s because the movie’s primary antagonist is a human (not Muppet as host Eric Bolling keeps stating – nice fact checking, guys) oil tycoon named Tex Richman.

I really wish I were making this up. Just watch the clip already.

I don’t care if you’re a liberal, conservative or somewhere in-between–can we all just agree that these people are looking for reasons to be offended and divisive and get on with our day? Thanks.

And for those of you who’ve seen The Muppets, how do you feel about this? Did you come away from it with an overwhelming urge to smash the state or join Occupy Wall Street? Let us know in the comments below.

(That was a joke, by the way. Still, please do leave your comments…)

  1. It’s not easy being red.

well Fox knows what there doing anyway. the only thing they’ve kept constant is Fox news and The Simpsons. when do they not cry out for ratings. I do quote this line from a guy named Lanipator’s youtube of what pissies him off.
    seriously fox just quit already.

  3. As usual the right proves itself to be wrong. Faux news is filth, and I cringe to think that there are so many people who still believe and have faith in it.

  4. Blair Taylor

My thing is this The Muppets have been around for a very long time and they were always for the enjoyment of children, so, with that in mind I honestly believe that these people read way too much into things. Plus whenever you ever watch children’s movies there are always good people and villains. STUPSE.

  5. I can’t even find the words.

Also: Oh, they did NOT just accuse Captain Planet of brainwashing!

  6. Sean Bassinger

Muppets are brainwashing young people… Fox News is brainwashing old people… and soon… war.

…what a time to be alive.

  7. Bob

As long as you realize that Fox News is for entertainment purposes only, it doesn’t seem as baffling.

  8. I’m beginning to think FOX hates everything that hates big businesses like FOX. And everything else for that matter. The new Muppets movie (Which both of my brothers and I loved) is about two brothers trying to follow one of the brothers’ dream of meeting the great green one himself, not about making us want to overthrow Wall Street and hold tank parades (although the latter does sound fun…). FOX is, once again, blowing things out of proportion because said things aren’t FOX. That said, long live comrade Gonzo.
