A couple of months ago I was perusing the App Store’s latest releases (because I’m anal like that). I remember flicking past a game that made me scroll back up to double-check something: it was ten dollars. Ten dollars! And it had a high average user rating. And not like seven or eight of the dev’s friends who just download it and vote to boost their numbers (I know you iOS developers do this), but well over twenty or thirty.
So I checked Mission Europa out, saw it looked like something akin to technicolor ass and promptly kept browsing. A little while later I decided to look into it a bit more. I mean, with that many people giving it high ratings there had to be something I was missing. Like bewbs or beer tickets or something.
Turns out it’s just plain freaking awesome.
So what’s it like? Well imagine a FPS/RPG hybrid like Borderlands, splice it with loot-gathering and crafting from games like Diablo, then wrap it all up in a package that evokes the oppressive and disturbing atmosphere of System Shock. Now go change pants. Now grab that iOS device and start downloading. It’s free. No excuses.
Bear in mind; this is the Standard Edition. That means only Episode 1 is available, but the others can be unlocked via in-app purchase for a measly $3. Trust me, it’s worth it. Even if the idea of spending money causes things to shrivel, the single episode on offer will probably take at least a couple of hours to complete. At the very least, this should be downloaded and tried out. If it doesn’t appeal, it was free. However there’s a much better chance that Mission Europa will blow some minds.
