BioWare, the studio responsible for games such as Dragon Age and the Mass Effect series, has had its servers hacked on June 14th, compromising around 18 000 accounts associated with the Neverwinter Nights forums, according to a post on the company’s forums.

The message was posted early June 15th, by BioWare Studio General Manager Aaryn Flynn, and said that although credit card information was not taken, “information such as user account names and passwords, email addresses, and birth dates of approximately 18,000 accounts” had been obtained. According to the post, accounts that may have been compromised have received emails notifying them of the situation.

In addition, a Q&A posted on EA’s website said that the accounts have been secured since the breach.

“We have taken the appropriate steps to secure the data in the server system associated with the Neverwinter Nights forums,” EA said.

The intrusion marks another in what seems to be an increasing number of cyber attacks on notable companies, including Bethesda, and Sony. We can only hope that the hackers are caught quickly.
