Riot Announces League of Legends Season One Championship Details

Dreamhack

Dreamhack–hosted in far-away Jönköping, Sweden–is “the world’s largest digital festival.” For the laypersons out there, this means a metric buttload of geeks sitting in the darkness from June 18th – 21st for the what amounts to the biggest LAN party you’ve ever seen. Oh, sure, there are musical performances and other stuff too, but that’s not the main draw. The main draw is video games, pure and simple.

In addition to many other tournaments behind held that weekend, Dreamhack will also be hosting the Season One Championships for League of Legends. You want the details? Of course you do. Enjoy.

Season One Championship – Full Schedule

June 18: Group stage to determine final tournament seeding

1:30 AM to 10:15 AM PDT

June 19: Relegation and semifinal

1:00 AM to 11:30 AM PDT

June 20: Medal Round – final placement including the world championship match

1:00 AM to 5:00 PM PDT

Championship Match Begins at 3:00 PM PDT

Yes, you read those times correctly. Sadly, that’s the main downfall of hosting a League of Legends tournament in Sweden: being on Swedish time.

Still, for those of you who plan to be up around 4:00AM Eastern time, you can enjoy full live-streamed coverage of the team-fighting, summoner-ganking, lane-pushing proceedings. Those of you who keep sane, respectable hours can catch the replay recordings later. In addition, there will be post-match interviews, match recaps and highlights, and all the usual e-sport goodness.

Man, is it wrong that I’m actually really excited to watch this? For a moment, I think I understand how Scott feels during hockey playoffs, or any “typical” American male during the season climax of their sporting event of choice, or (if I dare chance the blasphemy) how a South Korean feels about StarCraft.

Okay, probably not that last one, but maybe someday…

Someday.
