Up until now, Epic Games has made some somber, understated choices for music when it comes to past Gears of War trailers. Who can forget the Gary Jules cover of Tears For Fears’ “Mad World” that preceded the first game? Or DeVotchka’s “How It Ends” from the 2008 follow-up? The trend continued into last year when Cliffy B. debuted the first Gears 3 teaser on Jimmy Fallon’s talk show, set to the moody “Heron Blue” by Sun Kil Moon.

It seems that they’ve decided to buck that trend a bit.

The newest trailer takes a path far more familiar to big budget action games–heavy metal–but you could do a lot worse than setting your cinematic sizzle to Black Sabbath’s classic protest rocker, “War Pigs.”

While I’m a little sad to see that they didn’t dip further into the record vaults, giving us another gem to loop endlessly on repeat during those depressing, half-drunk nights with all the lights turned out, I can hardly think of a better track to send Marcus and company off to the climax of their story.

Predictable? Sure. Awesome? You better believe it.
