Angry about this whole PSN thing? Worried about your personal information? Annoyed at Sony for not telling us anything? Want to know just what the hell is going on? Well then take a look at the PlayStation Blog‘s latest bit ‘o news, courtesy of the Senior Director of Corporate Communications and Social Media, Patrick Seybold.
The guy with what has to be one of the worst jobs in the industry right now has posted Sony’s newest Q&A, which offers up answers to at least a few of the questions that have been eating away at users’ minds. You can check out the full post here.
First off; Sony still isn’t sure if any credit card info was taken. There’s no indication that any of that information has been tampered with, but they’re still looking into it. Second and much more of a hot topic; all user credit card info was encrypted, so, assuming someone did manage to copy the data, they’re not going to be able to read any of it. At least not easily. Personal info, however, was not encrypted. What this means is whoever was responsible for the “attack” that led to Sony shutting down PSN probably has your personal info like name, address, birth date, etc… but not your card number. As per usual Sony urges all users to change the passwords for any of their accounts (email, bank/credit cards, etc…) linked to their PSN ID.
It’s not much of a relief, but it’s nice to know that our card info is probably in the clear. And that Sony is finally telling people what’s going on.
