Have you ever wanted to kill something cute? Okay, and what about slaughtering vast numbers of the cute little sacks of meat? Good. Thanks to the folks at Hothead Games and UTV Ignition Entertainment, you psychos finally have an outlet. In about a week you’ll be able to commit mass genocide in what can most easily be described as Lemmings for the modern gamer.

Swarm is essentially about getting at least one of your expendable little blue… things (known as Swarmites) from one end of a given stage to the other, avoiding or intentionally colliding with all manner of hazards along the way. Simply completing a level won’t necessarily get you anywhere, though. In fact, you won’t be able to access new levels if you can’t nail the score required for entry. Enter the multiplier: a nifty little counter that increases as you gather small glowing balls of energy, large glowing balls of energy or get some Swarmites murdered. If too much time passes between grabbing an orb or killing a Swarmite, the counter will drop to nil again, so you’ll have to be quick and more than a little insidiously clever in order to nab the really high scores.

And scoring is what it’s all about, really. Swarm is essentially a score-hound’s wet dream, with all manner of high score trackers, leaderboards to dominate and nine different Death Medals to earn. There’s even a global Swarmite death counter in the PSN version (sorry 360 owners) that continuously adds up each and every Swarmite death across every PS3 with an internet connection. So while the game proper can be completed in roughly six to eight hours of playtime, replayability is a huge focus and will most likely add innumerable hours on top of the initial estimate. If you’re in to that sort of thing. And you should be.

Look for Swarm on your almost-a-computer HD console of choice around March 22nd. Mass genocide will only set you back $15/1200 points.
