Hi kids! Enjoying your keyboards and Pro Guitars? I know I am!
But if you were looking to export the track list of Rock Band 2 into Rock Band 3, you might be having trouble. A week before RB2’s launch, a title update allowed you to export your original Rock Band songs for use in the sequel. Today, there are no official instructions on how to do so with your songs from RB2. But with a little poking around, we here at Crush! Frag! Destroy! have found some info on building up your library of songs for the new game.
To import your Rock Band 2 songs into Rock Band 3, follow these directions:
- Insert your Rock Band 3 disc into the console.
- Go to “Get More Music.”
- Select “Redeem Code.”
- Enter the code from the back of your Rock Band 2 manual. You may remember entering this code a couple of years ago to get 20 bonus songs.
If this doesn’t work, call EA support (650) 628-1001 for a new code. Personally, I spent 20 minutes on hold and even with the new code I haven’t been able to export my RB2 songs. But the lady at EA support promised it should work later today or tomorrow morning at the latest.
By the way, a handful of songs aren’t exportable. As of now, the list of songs that won’t make it into RB3 include: “Let There Be Rock” by AC/DC, “Any Way You Want It” by Journey, “Battery” by Metallica, “Give It Away” by Red Hot Chili Peppers, and “Spoonman” by Soundgarden.
How about you? Any luck exporting your songs? Let us know your early experiences with Rock Band 3 in the comments below.

I’d be surprised if there wasn’t some sort of crazy backlash because of this…
For PS3, you have to take the code from the RB2 manual to rockband.com and then you will get a 12 digital code. The code in RB2 is 16. The site is down right now due to server load. Should be back up tomorrow according to EA support rep.
As long as it’s working before my RB party next week, I’m cool.
Five days later… Still not working…
I heard tell somewhere that the export only has problems with people who may have changed their gamertag recently? I could be totally off base about this, but I know you just switched yours recently…
… You’re making that up.
…Okay, you weren’t joking, Rob. That’s seriously my problem. They tell me I should be fixed in an hour or two. In other news, for those of you out there still having trouble, try entering your code in all caps. That seems to be helping people.
Nobody ever takes me seriously… *sigh*
It’s probably the giant yellow bowtie you wear every time I see you.
