Soundtrack Spotlight: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker

mgspw

Soundtrack Spotlight is a weekly CFD! feature devoted to all things VGM. Every week we celebrate the best in-game music, highlight new releases and forgotten tracks, and bring you the best in auditory awesomeness.

Even though it came out some time ago, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is still more than worthy to be the featured soundtrack this week.

As the third installment in the Big Boss origin tale, Peace Walker’s soundtrack retains much of the moody mellowness found in its predecessors, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and MGS: Portable Ops, along with the familiar, pounding rhythms native to later games in the series.

Though it may have received less attention than it deserved after coming out on the same day as Peace Walker, Mega Man Zero Collection is certainly worth a look, if only for its generous amount of content. For $30, you get all four excellent Mega Man Zero games (originally released on the Game Boy Advance) on a single cartridge, along with a new difficulty mode, customizable button mapping, and unlockable art assets. Oh, and four awesome soundtracks!

Guess what? A new River City game was just released on DS!

Okay, it’s actually River City Soccer Hooligans, a localized version of a new entry in the popular Japanese Kunio-Kun series.

But that’s also what River City Ransom was (originally released in Japan as Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari ). Why don’t we just use this release as a great excuse to enjoy a few tracks from the 2004 Game Boy Advance remake, River City Ransom EX?
