Any gamer with a soul is familiar with the excruciating pain of that terrible announcement. You know the one: Oddworld Inhabitants disbanding, so no more Oddworld, Abe, Munch, Stranger, Paramites, Slogs or Scrabs. It sounds absurd, but I felt a part of me die that day. Not only was Abe & Co. being left behind, but the whole of Oddworld was doomed to be forgotten in one swift blog post.

This is the part where I tell you to “cheer up.”

Just Add Water (of Gravity Crash fame) just announced that they will be collaborating with former members of Oddworld Inhabitants on “… multiple projects, across multiple platforms.” Actually, that’s not true. They’ve been working with the likes of Sherry McKenna and Lorne Lanning for the last year. That means this isn’t some pipe-dream that may or may not fizzle out in the future, but rather a dream-come-true that’s already well on its way to fruition. I’ll just sit back for a minute while you do that embarrassing Happy Dance you tend to do when you get too excited. Don’t worry, I don’t mind waiting.

Details are still rather vague at the moment, but JAW asserts that Abe and other memorable Oddworld characters will be making a comeback, and to look for more info in “the coming weeks.”

It’s with a huge amount of pride that we can announce that for the past 12 months we have been working extremely closely with the fantastic people at Oddworld Inhabitants, from what started off as brief discussions in June 2009, to now working on multiple projects, across multiple platforms.

Whilst we cannot go into specifics right now, we can tell you that over the coming weeks and months we will be announcing these exciting projects starring all of your favourite Oddworld characters.

“To work with the team at Oddworld has been amazing; being able to tap the minds of Lorne Lanning, Sherry McKenna and others has been fantastic,” said Just Add Water’s Managing Director Stewart Gilray.

“It’s almost symbiotic in that when something moves forward on any of the projects we just start chatting about new items, or what if we do this,” Gilray continued. “We’re all extremely excited to breathe life into the Oddworld universe and indeed to let it breathe life into us.”

Okay, go ahead and do the dance again. I think I’ll join you this time.
