It’s always troubling when a game everyone’s excited about falls off the radar. It could be that it’s just taking a while, or that it’s hit a few snags. Sometimes it might even get canceled. This is the icy grip of fear we’re all familiar with when the development of a game made by a company that isn’t Blizzard suddenly goes dark. Thankfully Michel Ancel has confirmed that the eagerly anticipated Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still in the works. It’s just being handled by a very tiny team.

Eurogamer has heard from the man himself that the continuing adventures of Jade and Co. haven’t been forgotten:

It will take time. Please have patience. I’m sorry… On this game, we’re keeping the team small, to preserve creativity and so the game doesn’t become a commercial product, so that is has soul.

Ancel also revealed that the team will be using the same development tools as the five-person team working on the new Rayman Origins. Which, by the way, looks freaking sweet. Anyway, these tools have been specially designed to allow small teams to work on creating 3D games. How well it will all work (and how long it’ll take) remains to be seen, but at the very least it’s nice to know a sequel to the stellar Beyond Good & Evil is still a possibility.
