According to Edge Online, a trusted source has revealed to them that Microsoft’s motion-detecting hardware will be sold for $149, while those without an Xbox will be able to pick up a bundle with the Arcade for $299. It seems Microsoft is keeping up with its habits of overpricing hardware add-ons, since the price is not nearly as competitive as the Playstation Move, which will be going for less than $100.
Pricing worldwide is not currently known, but according to Edge, “Based on current [exchange] rates, the standalone unit would retail for £103 / €121, and the console and Natal bundle for £207 / €243.” This is much more than the original estimate of sub-£50.
The camera, which won’t be called Natal, will have it’s true name revealed at E3 next month. As for a release date, their source told Edge that the hardware was holding a tentative release date of October 26, but that this could change. According to their source:
“Microsoft expects to sell millions and millions of Natal units in its first year on the market so you can expect the software launch line-up to target non-traditional gamers… A major marketing campaign will also play a key role in attracting and educating the expanded audience about Xbox 360’s controller-free revolution.”
