In a “shocking development,” Ubisoft’s much maligned attempt at punishing their loyal customers was, supposedly, a waste of time and energy.
CNET has reported that a group known as Skid Row has claimed to have created a replacement .exe that completely circumvents the whole shebang. Whether or not this turns out to be true remains to be seen, but the files have already been uploaded to numerous file-sharing sites for anyone looking to play their Ubisoft games without the threat of data loss.
“Thank you Ubisoft, this was quiete [sic] a challenge for us, but nothing stops the leading force from doing what we do. Next time focus on the game and not on the DRM. It was probably horrible for all legit users. We just make their lifes [sic] easier.”
I’d like to take a moment to mention I don’t condone hacking/stealing games. However, I also don’t approve of Ubisoft’s horrible “answer” to the problem. The one thing I do condone in all this is that Skid Row also (allegedly) created a crack for anyone who purchased the retail version. Which means the game these folks spent their own hard earned money on can finally be played whenever they want with no worries concerning internet connections.

We all knew it was a matter of time. Ubisoft really pissed off the PC crowd with their utterly horrible DRM scheme. If I bought one of these Ubi games with BAD DRM (TM), I would definitely use this hack, if nothing else, for the spirit of it. BAD DRM (TM) if left unchecked, will spell doom for every major release, and only cheezy Korean MMO’s will survive. I want a reason to buy the latest Graphics Card dammit!
