You might be forgiven for giving Vigil’s Darksiders a pass on shelves. However, what many thought was going to be just a run-of-the-mill action/adventure game doomed to wither in the looming shadow of games like God of War III is rapidly turning heads and generating great word-of-mouth (look for CFD!’s own review coming soon-ish).
Still, some people won’t buy into the hype without at least getting a little taste first. Thankfully, in this case, Vigil’s not offering up a Dixie cup-sized supermarket sample. Instead, you’re getting a gigantic heaping plateful of a demo.
Due to hit PSN and Xbox Live on February 25th, the Darksiders demo isn’t a tightly controlled, tweaked vertical slice of the finished product. No, instead you’ll get to experience the game’s first dungeon, the Twilight Cathedral, in its entirety – something that should take you in the neighborhood of an hour and a half. Not a bad deal, huh?
Perhaps if the demo had come out sooner, the game would have placed higher than #10 on last month’s NPD charts. Still, I doubt Vigil and THQ will mind if Darksiders is a long-tailed slow burn rather than the usual “flash and fade”. After all, sales are sales and anything that gets more people to take a look at the game is a good thing, right?
