Rumor: Dead Space Extraction Bound for 360 and PS3?

Despite a plethora of good reviews, Dead Space: Extraction sold very, very poorly. Last year’s on-rail Wii prequel (Wii-quel?) to EA/Visceral’s Dead Space just couldn’t find traction at the market, selling only around 9,000 copies at launch. In fact, it was looking very much like one of those games you’d be hard pressed to locate on store shelves in six months, turning up down the road in inevitable “Best Games Nobody Played” discussions.

Until now, that is…

You see, it seems that someone over at Kotaku got their mitts on a supposed consumer survey, looking to gauge interest in a port of the underperforming Wii title for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network that would retain the “guided first-person [...] interactive horror experience” of the original, while bringing it into “full HD” at a suggested pricepoint of around $15.

Also mentioned in the survey was another potential Dead Space downloadable called Planet Cracker, a “resource strategy game where players will manage a CEC Mining operation”. The title would operate in a manner similar to Fable II Pub Games, allowing rewards earned to transfer to Dead Space 2.

Both games were also listed as potential pre-purchace incentives for Dead Space 2.

This is, of course, all just speculation and rumor until we hear some official clarification from EA on the subject. We’ll try to keep you updated if more news comes of it. For now, let us know what you think. Did you play Dead Space: Extraction? Would you like to see an HD port? And how about that Planet Cracker? Hit up the comments below.

  1. As a rabid Dead Space fan, this has my interest.

  2. This would be nice! I love games like this and No More Heroes, but would be a lot more dedicated to them once they hit tha’ box.

  3. Dead Space Extraction was brilliant! It did interesting things with the way it told a story. A shame nobody was playing it. As a matter of fact, this year I didn’t do a “games of the year”, instead opting for a “best games nobody played”…can you guess what was on that list?

While I’d love it to appear in an HD format, I can’t imagine it playing well without a gun (or pointer like the Wii controller). If it’s happening, I can only wonder if they’re thinking of it in terms of the upcoming motion controllers. Otherwise, I’d be skeptical that the guided experience would be as much fun.
