Now that the super big football shindig is out of the way, we can focus on something much more enticing than actually watching football: playing football (on your TV game machine).
Tiburon Studios’ Creative Director Ian Cummings posted a video blog during the halftime of Super Bowl XLIV that contained a few tidbits on the developer’s next project, Madden NFL 11.
If you don’t feel like sitting through an eight-minute moving picture show, I’ll wrap up the important bits, okay?
- Hints at a new commentary system that brings you into the emotion of the game. I doubt they’ll be able to capture vocally what it feels like to shatter a fibula against icy ground, but we’ll see.
- As per usual, presentation (menu systems, camera angles, and play-selection) will get revamped.
- Tiburon hopes to build on the realism, visual tweaks, and community features implemented in Madden NFL 10.
- Increasing the number of player-specific animations and habits was mentioned by more than one member of the team.
- Everyone interviewed has a man-crush on Peyton Manning.
I had a difficult time justifying my decision to not include Madden NFL 10 in my personal Game of the Year 2009 list. I definitely played the pants off of the game and likely ruined two Xbox 360 consoles in the process of completing six full seasons, so I’m obviously looking forward to whatever Tiburon decides to do with its next iteration in the Madden franchise.
What’s the greatest improvement that could be made in any football video game? Removing all sign of Cris Collinsworth and replacing him with Charles Barkley.
