I don’t usually like writing up stories on straight-up rumors, but this one was juicy enough to grab my attention.
According to Kotaku, Slant Six Games and LucasArts are in the pre-production stage of a new Star Wars: Battlefront game.
This is the first tidbit of Battlefront news I’ve heard since last year’s concept art emerged from the ruins of Free Radical, and while I didn’t enjoy Slant Six’s last outing in SOCOM Confrontation, I’ll give any new attempt at Battlefront a chance. The original game on PS2 was responsible for bringing me into the online console arena and its sequel pulled me right back out. I hold both titles in high regard.
The post suggests Battlefront Online will be online-only (that’s kind of obvious) and will apparently ship in 2011. Given that the Battlefront series is LucasArts’ best-selling Star Wars property, I’m willing to bet it’s not a matter of if we’ll see a new title, but when. Fingers crossed!
