Inspired by its sister franchise, Left 4 Dead, Valve announced on Monday that they would be adding bots to Team Fortress 2, allowing for players to fill out matches and test their stuff against enemy AI. The bots are still in beta, and Valve is requesting that any bugs in their behavior be e-mailed to them or posted on their forums. Also, due to it still being in beta, there are only a few maps the bots can play on; at the moment, they can only follow the rules of King of the Hill, and can only be used on Viaduct, Sawmill, and Nucleus. However, in those you’ll be free to add as many bots as you’d like… within the confines of the player limit, that is.
Since this is a beta test, the code for adding bots hasn’t been added to the interface in any way, so you’ll have to add them manually, via console commands. Check out the blog linked above for the code, and happy bot-killing!
