When a bunch of major titles were delayed this year in order to prevent competition with the monster that was Modern Warfare 2, it was inevitable that someone would back out to avoid the new monster that this fourth quarter has become. It’s seems, then, that that company will be Capcom.
Announced today in a financial document released on their Japanese website, the publisher has “made the strategic decision to postpone the launch of titles that were scheduled for the 4th quarter of the current fiscal year” due to “rapid changes in the market conditions caused primarily by the 4th quarter introduction by competitors of a large number of new games”.
So it looks like we won’t get to see Monster Hunter Tri or Lost Planet 2, both of which were hinted at having a Q4 release date. Others like Super Street Fighter IV and Dead Rising 2 were never given an official release date to begin with, so it’s uncertain if they would have been affected or not.
Capcom’s fiscal year ends in March 2010, so look for these titles and more coming from Capcom after then.
