Next Rock Band Game Features…Green Day?

That’s right, your favorite Grammy-winning American punk rock trio is getting its own music game.

Titled Green Day: Rock Band, the game will feature accurate depictions of Billy Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool as they romp about new venues created especially for the game.

Green Day: Rock Band will differ from the series’ previous band-centric title, The Beatles: Rock Band, in that the full tracklist will be compatible with and exportable to Rock Band and Rock Band 2.

You know, I really had doubts that Harmonix could go any bigger than partnering with the Beatles. First I thought the next group could be U2 or maybe even Bruce Springsteen, but they obviously went for the big names in the music industry with Green Day.

Green Day: Rock Band will release sometime in 2010 for all major consoles, at which time no one is allowed to say the Rock Band series is not being milked for all it’s worth.

I think I detect a small whiff of sarcasm there, sir.

That being said, I have to say I’m HIGHLY disappointed in HMX for this one. I mean, I suppose the fact that the tracks are exportable is good for those who want essentially a huge Green Day track-pack, but I really don’t think they deserve the kind of treatment that The Beatles got.

Well, who’s to say? It may just be something along the lines of GH: Metallica or Aerosmith in that it won’t focus overly much on a narrative or timeline of sorts, but still… was anyone really asking for this? Really?

    :/

One could argue that none of the other bands who received their own version of Rock Band/Guitar Hero deserved it as much as The Beatles. If anything, it’s probably just going to be one of those “trend” things I keep hearing the kids talk about. I bet eventually we’ll get versions for AC/DC, Fallout Boy, etc…

That being said, I’ll have to hide this from my wife. She’s been a card-carrying member of Green Day’s fanclub since way back when Billy Joe’s mom made and mailed said cards by hand.

No way! Sarcasm!? Green Day is the most iconic music group of all time!

From the sound of it, this game won’t follow the careers of the members of Green Day in the same fashion as the Beatles game did, which is fine by me. That being said, I won’t be buying it.

Walmart got an AC/DC track pack for PS2, I believe, which is what Harmonix should have done for this game but they could have sold it exclusively in Hot Topic.
