It’s a question that’s been on everyone’s mind: what will be the next class to get updated in Team Fortress 2? All that’s left now are the Soldier, Demoman, and Engineer. Well, a new teaser comic, which was posted Wednesday, will leave all the Engineers in tears.
In it, we are finally introduced to the Announcer and her adorable little assistant. Turns out that the red Demoman and blue Soldier have become friends. The Announcer, not willing to let such a transgression go unattended, decides that the best way to take care of the situation is with a healthy competition. But why am I telling you all this when you’re obviously going to go read the comic yourself?
Good. Now that you’ve gotten that done, let’s answer all the questions you might have… after the jump.
Valve has announced that this will be another dual-class update, much like the Spy-Sniper update. It’ll have the same mix of goodies, including new weapons and maps. However, there’s one big catch; one that was hinted at in the comic that you did, indeed, read, right?
It turns out that the “healthy competition” the Announcer spoke of is a killing contest with a special weapon at stake. Basically, the update will keep track of how many times a Soldier kills a Demoman and vice versa. The class to have the most kills of the other gets this special weapon at the end of the contest period, which looks to be about a week. A small update that was pushed through earlier has changed the splash screen to reflect the war and a counter has been added if you play either of the warring classes. Want to keep track of the score without playing? Then head over to the official War page and get the counts there.
