Dead Space 2 Announced, First Details Teased

In one of the least surprising announcements this year, EA and Visceral Games have officially announced Dead Space 2, the sequel to 2008’s critically acclaimed Dead Space.

According to the official press release, protagonist Isaac Clarke will return and continue his fight against the horribly mutilated Necromorphs. It also states that Isaac “calls the shots” and plans on “taking the fight to the Necromorphs,” suggesting the game will expand to a larger stage than just an individual spaceship.

“The infection continues to spread through space and our hero Isaac Clarke is the only person able to contain it,” says Dead Space 2’s Executive Producer, Steve Papoutsis. “There are still loads of necromorphs that need killing!”

Personally, I’m glad another Dead Space game is alive and kicking. After EA eliminated several unannounced titles and the poor sales of the Wii-exclusive Dead Space: Extraction, I was afraid poor Visceral Games wouldn’t have the chance to analyze more car-crash victims.

Dead Space 2 is being developed for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC platforms. The game’s official website states more details will be released with this month’s edition of Game Informer. No release date or window was announced.
