Ubisoft Talks New Prince of Persia, Natal Support During Investor’s Call

ubilogo.jpgUbisoft held a call to its investors recently to discuss the company’s fiscal first half results and outline some of their plans and expectations for the upcoming third and fourth quarters. In addition to discussing financials (an operating loss of $117 million) and the high first week sales of  Assassin’s Creed II, CEO Yves Guillemot also dropped some intriguing news concerning the company’s Natal support and a new entry in the Prince of Persia franchise: Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands.

On the Natal front, Guillemot announced that Ubisoft plans to release “around 10″ games for the new device within the first six months of its launch. No specific titles were announced but Guillemot suggested that about 70 percent of  the games would be new IPs and, not surprisingly, most would also fall into the category of “casual games” (i.e. expect another Raving Rabbids title). Support for Sony’s motion controller “wand” was also mentioned but, interestingly, it looks like it’s not getting the same love that Microsoft’s motion controller is; Guillemot said to only expect four to five games for Sony’s device.

The most exciting news from the call was the announcement of Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands. Scheduled for release in May 2010 alongside the Sands of Time film adaptation starring Jake Gyllenhall, The Forgotten Sands will revisit the story of the original Sands of Time and its two sequels. Again, Guillemot didn’t have too many specific detials to reveal but he did promise ”fan-favorite elements from the original series as well as new gameplay innovations.” and “lots of combat”. While it was not confirmed at all during the call, one might wonder if this new Prince of Persia is also going to be one of the games that Ubisoft plans to release with motion control support for the Natal and/or the Sony ”wand” (Seriously, Sony just needs to name this thing already…).

Ubisoft will be making a more official announcement and showing off the first footage of the new game on December 12th during Spike TV’s Video Game Awards, so be sure to tune in then to find out more.
