October NPDs: Uncharted Tops Charts, Wii Back on Top

npd_logo_color.jpgHah – see what we did there? Because it’s ironic that a game called Uncharted would actually be sitting at the top of the sales charts… I suppose?

But anyway, yes – Uncharted 2: Among Thieves snagged the top slot for last month with over a half a million sold while the budget-priced upgrade to Wii Fit, the aptly titled Wii Fit Plus, moved 441k at number two. Gearbox’s Borderlands for 360 makes a surprising debut at number three, spitting in the eye of Michael Pachter’s comment that it was being sent to die, while last month’s overwhelming leader, Halo 3: ODST, slid from 1.5 million copies for just one week at market all the way to number six at 271k for a full month. Looks like Halo fans hit it early and hard before requesting evac – still, 200k+ is nothing to sneeze at. We’ll see if it holds on in the top 10 next month.

PlayStation 3′s price cut drove them to the top of the home console charts last month, knocking the Wii out of its long-held top banana position. So what does the Wii do for October? Drop its own price to $199.99 and reclaim dominance. But dominance of what?

The hardware market was down 23% from October of 2009 – $380.74 million dollars versus $496.96 million – while software was down around 18%. The market as a whole remains 13% down for the year-to-date.

Notably absent from this month’s top 10 was Tim Schafer’s Brütal Legend. This makes us very sad in our hearts and hopeful that it lurks just below the surface of the bottom half of the top 20; Tim deserves some love. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Wow, I certainly didn’t expect Borderlands to chart so high. Good for them.
