Well, we made it. The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 launch has come and gone and society still seems to be more or less intact. And not surprisingly a whole lot of you went out and bought it.

As predicted by, well, everyone, Modern Warfare 2  has demolished the first day sales records both in North America and across the pond in the UK. People were even lining up for the game in Japan, where hardcore Western developed shooters can be a really tough sell.

While it’s a little early to get official numbers, (we’ll have to wait for NPDs for that) internal Activision estimates place the first day sell-through at 4.7 million copies in North America and the United Kingdom. This beats the record set last year by Grand Theft Auto IV with first day sales of 3.6 million units. UK sales have been reported to be as high as 1.23 million units.

Not too shabby, is that a bead of sweat I see on Reggie Fils-Aime‘s brow?

So what do you guys think? Does Modern Warfare 2 live up to all of your expectations; or did we all just buy into Activision’s hype?
