New Medal of Honor Teased, To Be Unveiled Soon

Wow, yesterday’s EA conference call was meaty!
In addition to announcing massive layoffs, studio closures, and canceled titles, EA Games boss Frank Gibeau let slip that a “revitalization” of the Medal of Honor franchise will be shown off soon.
Taking a page from Need for Speed’s book, Gibeau said the company’s attempts to “revitalize blockbusters” would give creatively defunct series a shot in the arm. He also stated that this approach wouldn’t only apply to Medal of Honor, but to other “core IPs” as well.
The most recent game released under the series’ name was 2007′s Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 on the PSP and Wii. Needless to say, the game managed only average review scores and sales alike.
It will be interesting to see whether Medal of Honor will follow rival franchises like Activision’s Call of Duty and EA’s own Battlefield series into the modern era or if it will continue to focus on historical conflicts. We will likely get our first glimpse of the shiny new Medal of Honor after Battlefield: Bad Company 2 releases in March.

Medal of Honor set the stage for my FPS gaming experiences outside of the UT’s because of the secret operative/Indiana Jones feel the story had. When I got my hands into Call of Duty I stopped playing MoH because it was more story driven and had better weapon handling.
The current generation is crowded with gritty Marines and Rangers, hard pressed to make the world a safer place. Those these real men and women are ever the strong and courageous warfighters this country has ever trained, maybe it’s time to stop focusing on just that aspect alone? Why not branch out into planetary colonies? Derelict space stations over run with pirates and outlaws. Just because it’s set out there amongst the stars, it doesn’t always have to involve aliens.
