Mondays are typically slow nights for the world of Azeroth; a few guilds are finishing up raids, a few pugs try and form up before the raids reset the following day. Yeah, Mondays are predictable; or rather, they were.

Earlier tonight I tried logging on to WoW in hopes of finding a couple of pugs and getting a few more badges for some BoA gear, only to see the downloader pop up. A patch on a Monday night? Bad. A patch on a Monday night that doesn’t explain to me what I just downloaded? Really Bad. A patch that is seemingly causing problems for the WoW community? Worse than really bad.

After a little digging through the Blizzard forums I found the following post.

Blizzard Poster Charlesps stated that “It is a tools patch for the launcher and the repair utility.”

Okay, fine. It’s a launcher patch. But why patch the game on a Monday night when your normally scheduled Maintenance is 12 hours away?

Although the patch is supposedly a small fix for the launcher and repair utility, players are reporting a large number of issues.

  • The Downloader fails to download the patch.
  • Unable to Validate Game Version.
  • The Downloader fails to apply the patch.

All of those problems have been experienced by different players. For me, it seems that the patch downloaded and applied fine and I was able to log into the game but then my client crashed several times. I’m not sure if this is related to the patch or if it’s just Dalaran lagging me out.

If you’ve experience any of these problems head on over to the Blizzard Technical Support Forums.

Heheh. I’ve been logged on for a few hours, so I haven’t seen this patch yet. I’m just glad that when I log out tonight, I won’t be back on til tomorrow evening, and hopefully they fix it tomorrow.
