Apparently the recent distress over Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s exclusion of dedicated servers on PC isn’t a big deal to gaming’s largest publisher. In a quarterly results call today, Activision Publishing head Michael Griffith had the following to say:
“We’re of course watching this very carefully and paying attention to it, but we’re not overly concerned about it. One of the problems of our PC [versions] on this title in the past is that it has not been as friendly a consumer experience in terms of matchmaking and online play as the consoles have allowed it to be. Our solution here improves that consumer experience overall by a significant margin, so we think the benefits that we will see are going to far outweigh any negatives that seem to be surfacing.”
Those negatives may refer to the immense public outcry, a staggering online petition, and even losing serious customers to the direct competition. Though it’s unlikely that Modern Warfare 2 will flop on PC, whatever sales they’re destined to yield on other platforms next Tuesday will no doubt make up for the lost revenue.
Looks like Activision CEO Bobby Kotick will sustain his title as “Supreme Ruler of the Luxury Yachts” after all. Phew.

I have to agree with him. Modern Warfare 2 is going to be huge, no matter what. I’m willing to bet most (if not all) of the console-based buyers aren’t even aware of the whole server issue.
I’m guessing they don’t have any idea that the issue even exists. Funny thing is, I actually want MW2 on PC instead of 360 because of the removal of dedicated servers. Call me crazy, but I’m tired of being booted from PC servers because of my username or because I killed the host too many times. Better graphics and a mouse and keyboard are all I need.
