September NPDs: The Rest of the Top 20

We’re almost done with the NPD-related posts, we promise! I know you all find sales figures and lists to be horribly exciting, so please try to contain yourself as we throw one more at you. This time, it’s the extended console/handheld retail sales list – the top 20.

Keep in mind, NPD only reports the actual sales numbers for the top 10 titles; numbers 11 through 20 are not released to the public unless the publisher does so independently, so what we’re looking at here is more a case of what placed and what didn’t – other numbers will be provided where available.

One of the nice things to note is that the floor of the top 20 is 132k units, which last month would have sat between numbers six and seven in the top 10. Also, four new DS titles (rather than the old mainstays of Pokemon Platinum and Mario Kart DS) were in the list, though only Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story managed to crack the top 10 (in a respectable 4th place); the critically acclaimed Scribblenauts took the 13th slot with 194,000 units sold. Lastly, the PS3 version of The Beatles: Rock Band rounded out the bottom, meaning all three versions of the game charted in the top 20; meanwhile, its biggest competition in Guitar Hero 5 was nowhere else to be seen – a topic for our next (and what we promise to last) NPD-related post.
