Help Wanted: CFD! Needs Writers

cfd_logo_big-copyCrush! Frag! Destroy! has grown a lot since we first opened up shop eight months back. What started off as a one-man operation (well, three if you count the art team) has grown with time, but as traffic at the site has steadily increased, so has the amount of work I’ve had to do behind the scenes. Working on site updates, handling most of the news posts, dealing with publishers and PR, as well as giving final editing clean-up to every story that goes live takes up an increasing amount of my time, leaving me with precious little to actually focus on writing original content.

So, we’re putting out the call again – CFD! needs writers, badly! [Insert Gauntlet Music Here]

What are we looking for specifically? Glad you asked! Take a look below.

What We Need:

  • General News Writers - This one is the most important. Obviously the majority of what gets posted here from day to day is game-related news: release date announcements, sales figures, industry drama, media assets, and so forth. Our current news staff (ie: myself and Aubrey, who’s been helping out a lot lately despite not officially being a staff newsie) is a bit overwhelmed at the moment and, in the end, that only means that the quality of what we post is going to suffer. We need dedicated news writers who are able to contribute a minimum of 1-2 news posts a day to the site (if possible, more is obviously always good). Familiarity with RSS readers is recommended. Timeliness is a big plus – we hate being perpetually late to the party on posting stories.
  • Racing/Sports Game Writers - Think of this as our “Sports Desk” position, if you will. We’ve taken an honest look at what our weak spots as a site are and this is probably one of the biggest. The majority of the staff currently writing for CFD! have little-to-no interest in the bulk of sports and racing titles that get released on a regular basis; there are, of course, exceptions – I’m speaking in generalities here. Consequently, news and game review coverage on both of these fronts are pretty weak here. If you are knowledgeable about these genres and feel that this is a position you’d be able to cover regularly, we want to hear from you.
  • Feature Writers – Our other biggest deficit is a lack of original long-form content. Obviously this is more work intensive on a per-story basis than news, but there are many out there who love and excel at writing deconstructions of genre conventions, comedy pieces, retrospectives, stories on game culture, and more. If you’ve been waiting for a place to showcase your skills, we’d love to provide it.

Obviously we have space to fill in other areas as well (genre-specific topics outside of sports/racing, dedicated review writers), but those are of far less importance at the moment than the positions outlined above. Also, we prefer writers who can be flexible – feature writers can throw out a news story from time to time, the sports desk writer doesn’t have to feel confined to just that one topic, and almost anyone should be able to write a review now and again.

If you’re interested in joining the team, please visit this page for more information. We hope to hear from you all soon!
