Following in the footsteps bands like Radiohead and I Come to Shanghai (that’s former GFW Radio alum Robert Ashley’s musical outfit, whom you should totally check out), indie dev darlings 2D Boy are putting forth a pretty bold offer; they’re letting fans name their own price for the award winning World of Goo on PC.
To celebrate the game’s one-year anniversary, 2D is switching the cost from its normal pricepoint of $20 to $Whatever-the-hell-you-want for a limited time. Yes, this means you could be a total douchebag and pick the game up for as low as a single lousy penny if you really wanted to. However, if I catch wind of anyone having done so, I will happy travel to your home and punch you square in the face. 2D Boy is a small (read: two person) team who put out an amazing product for a pretty affordable price that infamously suffered a greater than 90% piracy rate upon launch. That’s criminal in more ways than one.
Here’s what I recommend doing – go to the site, download the demo, try it out, and then pay what you think it’s worth. If you honestly think a game that charming and well put-together is only worth $.01, then delete the demo and forget I said anything. Also, delete your System 32 folder while you’re at it. Seems like a fair trade to me.
Do keep in mind, this sale is only available through 2D Boy’s website – if you purchase the game or Steam, WiiWare or any other platform it will still be regular price. Also, the sale is only going on until the 19th of October, so you might wanna get a hustle on.

(Oh, and if you like trippy, psychedelic pop/rock, do check out I Come To Shanghai as well. And don’t just cheat the system there either – toss Bobito and Sam at least a few dollars if you can.)
