For good or ill, Sony’s newest iteration on the PlayStation Portable handheld, PSPgo, is in stores now.
“What could possibly be ill about it?” you ask? Well, even if we don’t factor the price ($249 USD) into the equation, there’s still the matter that a number of retail chains around the world are refusing to carry the system, doubtlessly upset that they’re being cut out of the software loop on the UMD-less system.
Then we have disgruntled North American customers who are angry that the proposed UMD-to-Digital conversion for their existing games never materialized, leaving them stuck with a bunch of titles that they would be forced to re-purchase, should they wish to move to the new system exclusively. For that matter, North America isn’t even getting the three free first party titles that Europe is being offered.
So where do we find the good? Well, the system is smaller, lighter and far more portable and has onboard memory. That’s gotta count for something, right?
…right?

Tempting, but odds are I’ll end up purchasing one of the older, UMD-outfitted models.
