At Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIII Premiere Party, held in Odaiba at at the National Museum of Science and Innovation, gamers finally got what they’ve been clamoring for – a release date for the game. Well, that is to say, Japanese gamers got one. For those of us outside of the home of giant robots and vending machine panties things are a bit more vague.
Alongside the usual announcements of Final Fantasy branded beverages and musical performances, head Squeenix honcho, Yoichi Wada, announced that the long running franchise’s newest installment (well, if you don’t count the already announced Final Fantasy XIV, that is) will be hitting shelves in Japan on December 17 of this year at a price of ¥8,800 (or around $95). There will also be a PS3 Slim bundle pack available, we assume at launch.
For when the rest of the world can look forward to FF XIII, Wada had the following to say: “In the past, it’s taken a year or half a year to release our games abroad, but this time we are aiming for an international release this Spring.” It’s nice to see that window getting cut down, especially for a game that will need as much localization as this.
