Remember when we posted screens and video a few days back about Kurt Cobain’s appearance in Guitar Hero 5 and talked a bit about how people had been discussing if it was in danger of stepping over the line of good taste? Well a user over at Giant Bomb posted a YouTube video that pretty much makes our point for us.
If you’re a major Cobain fan or someone who finds the issue of his inclusion in the game to be a sensitive topic, you may just want to skip on to another story. Or just don’t play the video. Yeah, that might be best.
You’ve been adequately warned.
This. This is the reason we can’t have nice things.
I know that’s a bit of hyperbole on my part, but it really does sort of sum up my feelings on the issue. I’m in no way poo-pooing the fellow who made this video, mind you. In a way, I applaud him for doing it, since it’s a perfect highlight reel for the kind of things that fans have been worried about. And let’s be honest, the addition of the Flavor Flav bits just make it all the more of an amazing train wreck. You want to look away, but you can’t.
But if the ex-Mrs. Cobain truly supervised and approved his inclusion into the game, don’t you think things like this are the kind of stuff one would have taken issue with if you were concerned about his inclusion being perceived as respectful? I feel the exact same way assuming this is also possible with Johnny Cash or any late musician. Way to stay classy, Activision.

In Guitar Hero World Tour, Billy Corgan sing songs from Nirvana. When, in the history of music, this will be possible??? This is the same!
Nothing about respect. This is a video-game!!
Who don’t wanna see things like this, just change the character! hehe. Or maybe don’t do it and give a few laughs.
By the way, I’m a big big big fan of Nirvana and Guitar Hero.
ps. Sorry about my poor english! hehe.
It could be worse I suppose. They could have made him into some crazy super-deformed, big headed, strange conglomeration. At least they just had him sing some crap he would have never actually sang.
