Price Drops for Xbox 360 Elite, No One Surprised

console_angle_control_jpg_jpgcopyWith how widespread the rumblings were of a price drop, (not to mention multiple sales flyer scans) it came with no surprise today when Microsoft announced that the rumors were indeed true: the Xbox 360 will be getting a price cut in both the States and the UK. Starting tomorrow, the Elite will be dropping to $299 and £199.99, where as the Pro will drop to a mere $249 until remaining stocks are gone. In the UK, the price of an Arcade has actually gone up, going from £129.99 to £159.99, which may be the only surprise out of all of this.

The Elite will no longer ship with an HDMI cable in order to make the new price point more viable, though it will still come with component and composite cables. All manufacturing of the Pro model, however, has completely stopped as Microsoft begins to phase the SKU out.

This news comes only a week after Sony announced a price drop for the PlayStation 3 and revealed the PS3 Slim at GamesCom 2009 in Cologne, Germany.

  1. Though I most certainly do need a bigger 360 HD, my money is going toward the Slim ASAP so I can finally play some of the games I’ve been drooling over!

Well, I think it’s finally more cost effective to just buy a new system instead of a new HDD. OK, so maybe not, but it is nice of them to finally lower the price a little. Will it still be in Elite black though once it’s the only skew? I sure hope so. The black is nice.
