Bayonetta Screen 02

Kotaku is reporting that, upon speaking with some Sega of Europe representatives, that Bayonetta will be region locked. This isn’t a big surprise for the Xbox 360 version, since most games on that platform are region locked, but it’s something new for the normally region-free PlayStation 3.

When asked why the game would be region locked, the representatives said that Sega was worried about the impact importing would have on sales outside of Japan.

VG247.com attempted to contact Sega in regards to the region locking, and was told that a statement would be issued sometime before the Japanese release date.

Bayonetta, which comes out October 29th in Japan, has been postponed to January 2010 in North America and Europe.

How do you region lock a PS3 game? Since the PS3 itself is region free. Wondering the legality of that, seeing as the only way would be to use the region locking codes for Blu-Ray films.

  2. No matter how much I am looking forward to this, I am not going to import it since I’m sure I can wait just a bit longer for it. Region-locking seems so redundant, too.

  3. Region locking? Seriously? What a waste of programming. Oh well, I wouldn’t import it anyway. I can wait until it comes out here in the states to play.

Im in no rush to import either, already too many games on my plate. So hopefully i can knock down a few games by the time this is released.
