As is becoming something of the standard these days, musicians keep making in-game appearances in successive releases of the Guitar Hero franchise. Who’s the latest to be presented with a slightly creepy digital doppelganger? Why, it’s Matt Bellamy – frontman for everyone’s favorite epic space-rockers, Muse!

Check it out as Matt talks about what being a digital rocker entails.

Those who know me know that I’ve been huge into Muse for the last year. I’m not as big of a fan of their work, pre-Absolution – where “Plug In Baby” from the clip and Guitar Hero 5 is from; specifically 2001′s Origin of Symmetry – but anything that turns more people on to good music is nice to see.

Now if only September would hurry and get here so their new album, The Resistance, can come out.

  1. This is pretty cool news. It looks like Guitar Hero 5 is shaping up quite nicely. This might just be the one to bring me back to the series. Haven’t bought a new Guitar Hero since GH 3. I like the direction with this one though.

  2. I don’t understand Activision’s need to toss every single celebrity they possibly can into their games. It’s pretty annoying, and disrespectful (to me) to throw Kurt Cobain and Johnny Cash into a video game when they have no real say. It’s kind of arbitrary anyway, seeing as they serve no real purpose in-game except to perform, and Muse doesn’t even have that great of a song in this installment.

  3. Well I’m sure in Johnny and Kurt’s cases that they got permission from their estate to use their likenesses – Johnny’s I can see being a bit of an homage to his classic period, but I agree that Kurt seems a bit of a disrespectful cash-in. Sad.

And yeah, I would have much preferred to see some of Muse’s better stuff in the game. Hell, put in Uprising to help promote the new album!

Totally agreed on this one. I was really disgusted with the KC likeness.

Although I must say, Matt Bellamy is one hell of a stage presence, so they picked a good person to mimic, but…
