Joystiq reported today that an anonymous visitor to the site sent them a curious image of what appears to be a survey question. Taken from MyThoughtsCount.com, the question asks “If 1 vs 100 were not available as part of your Gold Membership account, how likely would you be to purchase 1 vs 100 for $15 per season (13 weeks)?”. Currently, 1 vs. 100 is paid for through advertising, with commercials breaking up the gameplay. The game is free to all Gold members, so we’ll see if Microsoft will be successful in charging members via a service that is already being charged for.
Joystiq contacted Microsoft, inquiring about the possibility of a pay-to-play service for 1 vs. 100 and only received this delightfully vague response from a Microsoft representative:
“Xbox LIVE is pioneering an entirely new genre of entertainment and we’re proud that we’re delivering something that has never been done before. While we don’t have anything to announce at this time, our Beta season has seen great success and 1 vs 100 is one of the top 10 most downloaded pieces of gaming content on Xbox LIVE to date. We’re looking forward to where 1 vs 100 takes us down the road – stay tuned for more details!”
They got one thing right; it seems only time will tell us what will happen to 1 vs. 100.

Would it really be a surprise? Microsoft already nickel and dimes their members, and still subjects them to ads. The only surprise is that they don’t charge for it already.
Like Ned said, not a big surprise. I’m surprised by how much the XBL community gets wallet raped by Microsoft. $5 for a lightsaber so your avatar looks alittle cooler. Stupid… At least when you buy things for home you can use them…
Well, I’d like to say that people wouldn’t pay to play this game, but I just can’t say it in good consciousness. We all know, it will become pay to play, and people will pay for it.
There is no way in hell I would pay for a waste of time such as this. I never make it into the mob and it’s just not that fun to begin with. It’s hardly a game so much as it is a bit of a gamble so that you MIGHT win MS points or games and the questions are too easy to start with.
Wow – venomous much? ;)
See, I’m a sucker for trivia games myself so I’ve actually had a lot of fun with it. Even more so during the “Live” shows watching The One ask for help on stupid questions or lose on simple ones. It’s no different than watching a game show for me, except I’m participating.
That being said, I rather hate the idea of them considering charging for this. Meh. :/
Never got a chance to play it, sadly. But if I have to pay for it, I don’t think I will.
I doubt this will actually happen. These surveys always ask all kinds of questions. I’m sure it’s just research, and I doubt any one said they would actually pay to play the game.
I doubt they will charge for it, but you never know people are stupid enough to pay for a lot of worthless things.
I SCREAM BULLSPIT! WE WELCOME TWITTER AND FACEBOOK AND LAST.FM, BUT WE DONT NEED EM ON OUR CONSOLES! Put that development money towards whats working. Erm…1 vs. 100 maybe, we all have cell phones, laptops, desktops, wifi, and 007 phone watches to visit facebook and twitter and myspace and last.fm and any other website or social app created on the www. We put our hard-earned money into these consoles, now they wanna charge us for lightsabers, and adidas jump suits, lets be real. We pay $50 a year for online service, not a problem, Companies like Capcom & EA want us to sell our moms couch for dlc, problem. Whatever happened to “Only 3rd party games will cost $59.99 and Microsoft developed game will be $49.99″ we got shafted…problem. They sell games like G.I. Joe at full retail price when everyone in this planet knows that game is only worth $39.99…problem. 400msp for freakin versus mode in RE5…how about FREE99? Microsoft has the best system out right now, and is they wanna keep gamers interested then they need to stop with the BS! I was in wal*mart today and i seen a blu-ray player for $149.99. People dont need ps3, but im sure the only thing sony sucks at is online play and copying Microsofts every move or system update anyway. But back to the real problem at hand. Microsoft. Keep things fair because all of your customers are aware!
