World of Warcraft turns 5 this November and in honor of this event Blizzard has announced that they will be updating one of the most iconic encounters from Azeroth’s history.
Patch 3.2.2 will convert Onyxia’s Lair to a 10 and 25 player dungeon with items that retain the look of the classic loot available from that instance, but with updated stats to match today’s standards. Players will also get a chance at a special flying mount modeled after Onyxia which will boost their movement speed to 310%.
Also in celebration of the 5 year anniversary of WoW, anyone who logs into the game during the November event will get a special Onyxia Whelpling non-combat pet.

“She has lurked in her lair and done battle with the many brave adventurers who traveled to that familiar location over the years. Now, in honor of the World of Warcraft 5-year anniversary, the dreaded brood mother Onyxia is being revamped to make a return to the forefront of Azeroth, as part of our big plans for the upcoming 3.2.2 content patch.
“This permanent update to Onyxia will convert the dungeon into 10- and 25-player modes. We will be adding new items to Onyxia’s loot table that have the same model as some of the classic loot from this dungeon, like Tier 2 helms, with stats updated to match the current level of content. There will be a special new item too: a normal drake-sized 310% speed flying mount modeled after Onyxia herself called an Onyxia Broodling. We will also be updating the encounter mechanics to be more fitting for modern raiding, but we can guarantee players will get to experience the frightening horror of deep breaths once again.
“Then for a limited time, after the 5-year anniversary event officially begins in November, anybody who logs in will receive an Onyxia Brood Whelpling pet.
“We’re very excited to bring this classic encounter back to provide a fun new experience for both new and veteran players. Further details will be available in the near future, and we will be setting up the Public Test Realms soon to help test out this fight along with all the new content we have planned for the patch. Keep an eye on the forums for updates!”

I’ve been wanting Blizz to bring back some of the older raids! I’m stoked for this.
Honestly, I hope to hell that they update all the old classic content. I would love to see ‘Heroic’ or 10-25 man versions of old dungeons and raids.
Give me an updated AQ40 and BWL and I will be happy as hell. But for the love of god don’t ever give me a reason to step foot in MC again.
This is pimp. Ill be honest… the only time I personally got to see Ony was when I duo’d her with another DK friend of mine at 80. So being able to take part of the actual raid and actually be challenged excites the hell out of me
That… and Ive seen some of the loot. Alot of the old loot from vanilla WoW is being rettuned, and I’m glad to see they are bringing some weapons back that have proc-based effects on them. Can’t wait for this patch.
