Capcom must be riding high on this weekend’s big release at home, as they made loads of hardcore Western gamers squeal with delight this morning by announcing the newest Monster Hunter was bound for their shores. Yes, it’s official – Monster Hunter Tri for Wii will be coming to North America and Europe in early 2010. Start sharpening your swords now, kids.
The latest installment, the first of the series to land on Nintendo hardware, just launched in its native Japan this past Saturday and is expected to blow the doors off the sales charts. However, the franchise hasn’t been a huge seller on these shores; an issue Capcom fought tooth and nail to rectify with the huge marketing campaign behind the recent release of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite on PSP.
It seems Capcom must be fairly confident if they’re bringing their baby Stateside. Maybe someone should warn them that “hardcore” titles don’t have the best track record of selling on Wii? That being said, I’d love to see the title catch traction over here – especially with Tri’s online co-op making it easier to find buddies to hunt alongside.
For those who haven’t been turned on to the joy of loot whoring and slaying epic beasts, you can get hands-on with the localized version at this month’s GamesCom in Cologne. Or, if you can’t make it to Germany and/or don’t like bratwurst and beer, the following trailer and screens may help get you up to speed.

I knew they’d bring it to the states! Woooohooooo! *dances*
Time to save up for another Wii, I suppose.
